Motherboard swap RAID advice

Hey all, I'd imagine this may be an easy question to answer.

I currently have an Intel i5 based server (Windows Server 2016), it's using a Dell PERC H700 RAID card which is controlling my current RAID config (MegaRAID Storage Manager). I'm going to swapping out the motherboard and CPU in the coming weeks to potentially an AMD based system. "Should" this be possible without having to backup and rebuild the RAID configuration or will I certainly run into issues?

Thanks in advance.

If the Dell PERC H700 is a AIC (Add In Card) then it should work fine provided you plug it into the new motherboard.

It is possible using a card so old with something as new as AM4 could result in compatibility issues but the overall question of can it be transplanted without rebuilding the answer is yes. So long as the config on the card isn't lost.

Even if the config is lost, you can just recreate the config; which is why I create my arrays with default stripe values.

FYI I found putting the RAID card into my AM4 (X570) system, I had to put the card in my second PCIE x16 slot, it wouldn't be detected in my third slot...im guessing some sort of IRQ addressing thing, mileage may vary though....but yes your RAID will be just fine.

Yes, it's an add in card. As you mentioned, I'll make a backup of the config just in case it decides to not have it.

I've also done the same with default values for building the RAID so technically it should be an easy swap! I'll keep that in mind just in case I run into the same issue as you.

Thanks to both for the advice.
