Best Free Anti Virus (inb4 MSE)

asickduckie

What's the best free antivirus these days as far as "capture rates" and whatnot. I want something that doesn't give me constant popups and works well (unlike MSE)

I like AVG and then use malwarebytes as scans.

Avast has popups but they can be turned off, such as the audio update that will scare you half to death if you leave it on.

MSE, because it doesn't give me any pop ups and it works well.

it doesn't work well as far as the rates for capturing viruses. That's why it's not recommended anymore. It also doesn't have real time scanning (scanning files you download)

IE already does that, no?

What do you guys do on your computer that needs NSA levels of anti-virus protection?

if you guys are downloading some seriously racy stuff you can always just use a USB drive, VMware, Sandboxie etc.

I stopped believing in antivirus when I turned 13. I just keep Malwarebytes on my computer to run a scan if I somehow goof.

Error: 410

Avast! Or Linux, since it's pretty hard to get an unknown (to the user) virus on it from my experiences.

I use bit defender. I don't have to do anything, it runs auto scans and is really light. Never used avast but everyone says it's good so worth a shot.

AVG is the best, it gives alerts when a virus is found but that is all.  AVG is free and it identity protection offers top of the line zero day protection the Identity protection is a rating system that rates files based on security and has a built in emulator and can act like an automatic Host Intrusion Prevention System.  AVG Identity protection is truly strong.  AVG antivirus signatures are also very good, AVG has options to find Enhanced Potentially Unwanted Programs like toolbars and whatnot.  AVG can also speed up your PC Using Cache and can add an extra second or two onto bootup times with regular harddrives over time.  If you have any question about AVG feel free to ask me.

Dude... You are like a freaking walking billboard for them, and it kinda creeps me out. Nothing against you, just your insane love for AVG.

Well, I'm an AVG hall of famer and yeah I have a passion for AVG.  Although its also because of the stuff bubbling up inside since no one where I live understands what a motherboard is, and they wouldn't have a clue what a HIPS is either.

I don't know what a hips is, but I do know a fair bit about computers (more than pretty much everybody in my school).

I Run MSE for home, and SCEP at work.  They both work very well.

In Windows 8 Windows Defender has been given MSE function, so no aftermarket AV solution is really required.  Just have to make sure you keep up with patching.

I used to be the most shy kid in school, I was the nerd that everyone picked on and I would get all the kids their distinction while I would just sit there getting picked on.  Since being homeschooled for a few years I'm back on my feet.  but yeah, I was too.  HIPS means Host Intrusion Prevention System.
