I have a cheap oem acer mouse that is o-k with casual gaming but, I noticed some minor stuttering/skipping when my movement is slow. My Xbox controller does not do this and slow movement is smooth so, I am looking for a cheap upgrade somewhere in $20-$25 area that is wired and is basic as for as features go. Performance and comfort is my main priority and any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, I keep cheap stuff lasting longer than it should so, my previous mouse was so old, it had a track ball.

That may be what you are using for a mat.  You might not need a better mouse, just a smoother surface with more tooth.  Xbox controllers don’t skip because they have a fundamentally different system.  It’s vector plus speed not x/y.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Lol, I have been using the same mouse pad since 2005.

That might be the problem.  Maybe a wash and scrub is in order.  I have an old mousepad too and it worked worlds better after a washdown.  A laser mouse is a little tiny camera that measures movement based on what it sees.  Differentiation in fibers actually helps.  If the pad is covered in schmutz it can’t see.

Lol, I have sand paper that feels smoother than my mouse pad. Being that the mouse pad was designed for a track ball and I see some scratches on it then it may be time for a new pad.

Try a pizza box or even a piece of paper.  The fibers of the paper should be enough.  I knew my mouse pad needed a cleaning when I put the mouse on a price of paper and it worked better.

Old mouse pads are neoprene.  Same stuff they make wetsuits out of.  Washes great.

Yea, my pad has a few cuts in the corner, I will have to see if I have any other old ones left. The mouse pad did its job fine for many years, Lol, I am happy with my cheapness.

How about Logitech G304? for just 10 buck more you got some very great sensor, extra programmable keys and a wireless connection with standard AA replaceable battery on top of that. I program the extra key on my mouse for copy, backspace, and enter command, now I just can't use my computer without one anymore!

I don't want to do wireless.

It all depends with the mouses , try to find best sized mouse for your hand , this may help

I’ve use this guide to find my mouse (Logitech G403) and I’m really happy with it so far

@Whiro tag or quote will do the trick

If there was a place to buy Hexgears M33, I'd buy me a second one just for backup, but now it's basically gone from the market.

Don't know if it's available there - https://www.dhgate.com/product/hexgears-m33-professional-gaming-mouse-wired/423660213.html#seo=WAP

Nevermind it's overpriced there. used to be 16.50$ in Aliexpress.

That is a good point, I do get cramps in my hand from work and having something in the middle of performance and comfort would be nice.

The Logitech G502 SE is on sale right now for $30, I would go with that.

I would agree with this and also highly recommend a G502 SE.

Pros:

  • Built to last. If your old mouse lasted you that long, this mouse might as well last you your entire life and long enough to pass down to the next generation.
  • Top quality sensor
  • Insane productivity with the infinite scroll wheel, 11 programmable buttons, and RGB (RGB increases productivity)
  • Ergonomic design
  • Cost effective, especially now when it's $30

Cons:

  • Heavy weight if you aren't used to it
  • Big size
  • Logitech G Hub, their software, is bad.

I have bigger hands so those are actually pros for me. I’m still using my G9x and as old as it is, it still works perfectly. I really like the idea of being able to customize the weight for your preference. I have a G502 SE still NIB that I have yet to start using as a daily driver, but I’ve used them in the past and always wanted one. The only thing that was standing in the way was the price, which was $80 I believe. At just $30 now it’s a no brainer.

I agree, how it feels in your hand is everything.  If you have small hand's I would without a doubt recommend the corsair harpoon, if I wasn't picky about my sensor it would be my daily and wouldn't have got my mm710 (granted it is an odd shape).

I find it funny that not a single person suggested cleaning the rollers on the mouse but I'm not sure how many people here are old enough to have used a mouse with a ball.  Though as I was scrolling and laughing to myself I realized that anyone who has used one probably realized that no one with a ball in their mouse doesn't know how to clean it.

The only thing I can add that is of actual use, is that if your standard of a mouse is one with a ball and you want reliability you should first go with hand size (creature comfort from your point of view) then go with brand.  Logitech, microsoft and I have to say corsair have the best build qualities.  I love my M65 pro RGB with a passion and have snubbed a few mice for it even though it's to big for my hand and it's heavy.  Watch rocket jump ninja on youtube for in depth reviews of mice, though your bar is pretty low and he goes into the most elite of critic's but everything he says is spot on.

Wow.  Ball mice.  I don’t think I even have one anymore.  I got a track ball, but optical mice had ball mice beat so hard I didn’t bother keeping any.

Ohhh ball mouses ... I’m still using them time to time, my work have some “ancient” pc’s and they using ball mouses.

As of the size of the mouse it all depends what’s your hand size and your holding technique (palm, claw, fingertip). That’s why I recommend doing a some research about the mouse you like, Rocket Jump Ninja have very good reviews and guides how to choose right mouse. For instance there’s a review of Harpoon

I was considering it but after that I stick with G403 which I’m really happy about and it’s perfect so far for me.
