I'm more concerned by the drum brakes. Muscle cars in the US don't need to turn, we're primarily grid based. Temperature? We're hotter than the EU on average.

But stopping? Stopping is a universal problem.

Where I live? Lows of ~40 and highs of ~65. Why, was it cold where you live? I also don't see the relevance since we're talking about now, not 1972.

Our phone & internet companies do more tracking .The car thing is an addition to that.  Can we blame just the cars for keeping a log on things? we are already in that system of surveillance.  But this one can be put to a bit more scrutiny since this would be abused by some 3rd party if given chance.

Details separate people.

My 15 year old Camry definitely beats modern cars in privacy. It doesn't even have an aux jack! It just needs a new timing belt and it should be good for another 140,000km.

I'm hoping to keep her going until around 20205 when I hope that electric cars have come down in price enough for me to afford one. Plus, hopefully we'll have a more mature electric ecosystem, fleshed out privacy laws (pfffft), and maybe some solid state batteries.

Some really long term plans right there.

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

I'm reminded of a youtube video I saw a while ago, it was about privacy in messaging apps, at one point the guy mentioned "Sure right now you might not have anything to hide, but what about 5 years from now when they've made meat illegal and they can see you and your friend have a bacon smuggling ring". the point is right now you might not have anything to hide but things can change quickly.

It's a Toyota Camry. I wouldn't be surprised if it were eventually excavated from the ruins 20,000 years from now and still started.

I'm now curious if there will be a calendar reset when we hit the year 10,000. Like, yeah, that's enough let's start over from 0 for the next 10,000 years. I already sort of don't like saying it's the year twenty twenty, but twenty... five hundred o two?

You do know that drum brakes work right? The may not be as good as disk brakes but every drum brake equipped vehicle didn't lose the ability to stop as soon as disk brakes were invented.

Really? I wasn't aware. Here I thought it was air resistance stopping my shitbox when I applied the brakes.

The 197x Silverado with disc brakes we have damn near stops on a dime, my car doesn't stop for shit.

It's hard to say. I imagine our current anno domini system will fall out of use one way or another. If the world stays connected, then I imagine switching to something more universal could seem appealing. There's already a push for this. If we experience a widespread collapse, then it wouldn't be surprising to see more regional calendars pop up.

Ultimately, I think the issue is one of practicality. Would the switch be done because there's a practical reason for it, or would it be "just because?" Unless there's a practical need to switch, I don't see it being done due to the inconvenience and cost of transition. I don't see much of a practical need to switch unless/until we become a multi-planet species and need to take into account the difference between the orbits of the moon, Mars, Earth, etc.

Well with time being relative and Mars and the Moon having lower gravity, they'd have to do some pretty serious math to figure that shit out. I think Mars also has like 40 hour days and frankly just super shitty views.

I mean, hell even just going to a mountain top and back down screws with time. Your life expectancy on Mars or especially the moon, would be considerably shorter than the Earth... compared to Earth anyways. Not to mention the ill effects of low gravity...

Weren't we talking about James Bond spy cars?

When you're controlling the air resistance with the brake pedal.

I can't help you, I've driven plenty of vehicles with drum brakes, never had any problems.

Disc brakes work better. Especially when it's a large and heavy vehicle.

Okay. And if I had a muscle car, I'd be more concerned about the brakes than a corner or the temperature.

This argument is stupid.

Nope. Best mods you can do to your car to improve "performance" is a good set of tires and upgraded brakes.

Does depend on the car tbh. My dad's '88 GT 5.0 Mustang would get the most benefit from subframe connectors and then a better suspension to (IIRC) keep the rear tires on the ground better. The tires and brakes are fine unless you needed to track it or something, but it's a convertible so that wouldn't really be possible anyways.
