My new laptop is laggy

Premoz1

I just bought this Acer Aspire ES15 just for surfing in web. It was used for 2 years, but not in huge use. The previous owner did factory reset on this laptop. The first time I turned this on I was unable to even use this, but after installing all the windows 10 updates from 2016, it was better but still stuttering. Is there something else I could update? I went to device manager and there was 2 "amd e-7010 apu with amd radeon r2 graphics". Should I update those? And why I cant find my amd radeon settings from this pc? thanks

Try a fresh install over a factory restore, it's probably filled with bloatware from Acer.

How can I do that? I only know how to do factory restore

Upgrade to SSD if you don´t already have one. It should fix lags in regular use at least it did on my old laptop.

A slow laptop will never become a fast laptop, the only thing you can do is not tax it at all

Can you return it? I know you're angry that you bought a lemon but, taking it out on people trying to help isn't the answer. Other than that ssd and os changes are what you are left with as options. You can get alot of good laptops for what you paid for this. For example I currently have a thinkpad t440p i bought on ebay for $100. I upgraded the screen to 1080p for $50, slapped in 16gb of ram, and a 500gb ssd. Oh and an i7-4700mq. Fully upgraded it costs overall $200 or so cheaper than what you paid for this.

I just upgraded my mother's comparable laptop (100 MHz slower CPU). I gave it an SSD and another 2 GBs of RAM (has 6 now, GPU seems to take 0.5). It finally runs FHD video, as long as nothing is running in the background. Facebook drains every ounce of performance. I'm quicker with an abacus than that CPU.

Practically worthless hardware, good luck.

you paid 500 for an old slow dual core? Dude you've been scammed hard. 500 is probably the price for a modern aspire, which would be a million times faster

On my i7 620m 2gb laptop I have to run Linux, Windows 10 is way to bloated.  I suggest Manjaro.  It makes that Toshiba piece of slate garbage viable for watching youtube, etc.

You think it should be faster because it costs a lot? Well, in a sense you're not wrong. It's just not how the world works.

What they are saying is that if you paid that you got ripped off.  Bigly like.  But as you said doesn't matter - what can we do to help you get it going better.

I suggest replacing the HDD with an SSD.  If you have more than 2gb of RAM you can use Win 10, if you do not you will have a very bad time with Windows, thus I suggest Manjaro

Better get a Windows 10 disk/ISO, format the computer and start fresh. If u dont know how to do a fresh install, google it a bit. There should be plenty of tutorials on youtube as well. Disable any unnecessary background processes when u r in. It should be enough for just surfing the web. If u got some cash get an SSD or upgrade the RAM.

Windows 7 should also be good as it is lightweight on hardware compared to Windows 10 as u would be using it for web browsing, but then again i think Windows 7 dont get any security updates anymore. The choice is yours.

Please return this thing you have been scammed, new one costs 450$ on amazon. 500 euro for it USED is wrong and it might cost you even more to get it running properly.
