Okay. I need someone to clarify some things, I have made my research and everywhere I hear different things, some places I hear that you need to buy your ships with real money, some say that you can obtain the ships in-game and some others say a million different things, so what I have gotten from all this information is, that you need to buy your first ship, and then you can obtain ships in-game, is this true? I want to know because I got exited with the game, but then I heard that you needed to buy the ships with real money and that turned me down since I don't want to have to pay real money every time I destroy my spacecraft, I'm okay with having to do this with in-game money, but I don't want to go spending the little money I have on new ships for the game.

Right now to get into the Alpha/Beta/Dogfighting you have to buy a game package with a ship in the pledge store. You will be able to get all the ships in game later, though.

Oh so after release you would only buy the game and get access to the ships through the game?

Pretty much, afaik once the game comes out you'll have to hard labour your way to the bigger ships. Could all change though, they could bring out multiple game packages like now, and let people buy into the game with a slightly better ship

You can get insurance for them tho, idk if that's real money or in-game money

The people that got in "early" (which was something like one year) and got Lifetime Insurance (per-ship basis) get their ship and the stock equipment replaced for free. Current buyers only get a certain amount of time (up to six months or something like that) of insurance, that they must extend with in-game currency.

It keeps the games economical system working, if it works out similar to Eve.

Otherwise you'd just have tons of people with really OP ships flying around with no consequences.

It'd get boring.

Ok first off, Ignore BloodyValley. in every way. forever.

As for ships. yes you can buy ships with in-game money, yes insurance can be bought with in-game money.

The whole deal with Real money NOW is: support the game and get a ship for it (or whatever you buy). the money will accelerate development in certain areas like new planets, systems, ships, etc etc

When the game is out im not sure how it will work but you can still buy some stuff with REAL money, why? because not everyone have the time to play. How far you can get with your wallet is Unsure as for yet. However it wont be cheap. so don´t expect to get an Idris Corvette with 20 bucks. it going to cost MORE then it cost now. so an Idris costing 1200 now will maybe cost 1500+ USD, and im fine with this, that is IF it will be buyable.

If you want Direct live answers with high accurate i recommend the IRC chat @ Star Citizen´s website. or ask the Devs, mods and whatnot @ The Star Citizen Forum, they know alot

I'd have to agree to be honest. It makes sure that there's always going to be considerably smaller number of capital ships vs the less powerful ships. Otherwise, after a few months every guy and his dog will be cruising around in the best ship in the game.

I thought I recall Chris saying something along the lines of, "the only thing real world money can buy you is things that dont help you progress." I know he did say that this wont be a pay to play/win game.

Yes and no, what people seem to not understand is Just because you have the biggest ship with most cannons it wont make you the best, a X-wing could blew up the Death star people. same goes for a FPS game, just because you have a the 1 shot 1 kill Sniper rifle (AWP - counter stike) doesn't make you the guy that will own the other side.

It´s all about skills.

@Jaybird im senile so i cant remember EVERYTHING but yes, this game is NOT pay 2 win, but some people are so stupid, as soon as they hear that you can buy something with real money its Pay 2 win. Trolls will be trolls
