Single Player vs Multiplayer modes in games.

  1. 1. Would you buy/enjoy it?

    • Yes, I would like to have the option to only acquire SP or MP from the game at a discount.

    • No, the game is a full package that should not be divided.

So the latest Call of Duty Modern Warfare has released and it brings with it a very good single player campaign... even if it's short. This led me thinking, the game is as expected full price 60 USD... which is not unreasonable if you want the whole package, but what if you only have interest on that short single player campaign?

It can become quite frustrating right? So It occur to me... what if there actually was an option to buy *only* the single player portion of the game at a discount? say 30 USD instead.

The game will have all it's multiplayer feature disable and you can buy access to it for the additional 30USD if you feel like at some point, but you get that sweet campaign you wanna play on a weekend since lets face it you might love the game and the Modern Warfare franchise but you no longer have the time and desire to go multiplayer competitive any more and all you want is a "relaxed" single player experience. It gets frustrating that you ought to pay the whole thing for a major feature you won't utilize.

If companies that sells these both SP+MP games started to offer it separately for good discounts would you be interested on it?

Well, few things.

While this is imo a good idea, there are other options.

People that pay SP can for example access MP but can only play let's say 2 matches and then need to spectate 1, after that they can play 2 matches again. A sort of trial version instead of completely locking them out, will make people that buy SP only happier and probably increases chances of people buying MP because they can at least try it.

Also this is probably something that will work mainly on consoles. On PC a bunch of people will just either buy something else because the library is much bigger or wait for a sale which is a lot more common on PC.

No way they wan't to loose the other $30. You don't like multiplayers, well though luck.

I would love another single player storyline, maybe in a dlc.

IIRC they did this with at least one other CoD game, except it was the inverse, they let you buy the multiplayer portion without the single player, which makes more sense from a sales standpoint as there are drastically more people wanting to play just the multiplayer.

Its been a long time since a game i was interested in a game that had both a good singleplayer and multiplayer component. I think the last game that had good both SP and MP  was Battlefield Bad Company 2....so that was nearly 10 years ago. Other wise i tend to keep my MP and SP titles separate.

The majority of games eventually hit half price. Then they hit half of that half price. It's not difficult to wait when there's hundreds of other games to keep you occupied until then. There's also ways of legitimately buying games at half price or less just a few days after their release. Splitting a game into separate SP and MP games would only kill profits so you know devs aren't gonna do that. I mean, they still think of their games as works of art and sell the exact same game over and over to people dumb enough to pay $64 a pop.

CoD single-player wouldn't pay for itself.

It would be nice if they did divide them. If it's cheaper it brings in more players so the playerbase is larger for multiplayer. Actually, probably better if they made single player only games and multiplayer only games like some developers already do.
