So, the main contestants are my current intel core i7 7700 vs a ryzen 5 3600.

 

Intel side:

Core i7 7700

Cooling: be quiet dark rock tf

Board MSI H270 gaming m3

Memory: 2 x 8 gb 3000 mhz trident z rgb cas 15

Gpu: evga 1080 gaming sc

 

Amd side:

Intel side:

Ryzen 5 3600

Cooling: be quiet dark rock tf

Board Aorus b450 pro wifi

Memory: 2 x 8 gb 3200 mhz hyperx fury rgb cas 15

Gpu: evga 1080 gaming sc

Yes but not THAT much better.

 

If I were making this change I would go to a 3700x instead: there's a larger improvement over your 7700.
