What should I buy, rtx 2070 or 2060 super

I have a bit of spare money and I want to upgrade my gpu (currently I have a ROG strix Gtx 1060) and I want to buy a new card, I heard some bad stuff about the stix rtx 2070 (I'm a rog fan soo...) and I want to know if it is true.

you should probably look at the 5700xt if that is the ammount of money you are spending.

No point in changing the graphics card, the 4-core i5 bottlenecks even the 1060 you have, assuming you're running 1080p.

OP could always get a 5700 or 5700XT and save the extra money for a CPU upgrade later though. I've ran an i5 2400 with a 980 Ti, was a CPU bottleneck there but I just upgraded the CPU later down the line so all was well.

The 5700 xt is a beast for the price and some aftermarket cards with better cooling than the reference design are the same price as the reference cards.

If you have money only for 2070 then 5700 xt but if you have the money for 2070 super then definetly that it performs better then the 5700 xt

With an RTX 2070 card? A Ryzen 5 6-core 12-threads like the Ryzen 5 2600, 2600X, 3600, 3600X. For that, you'd also need to change the motherboard.

Or you could get an used i7 6700K or 7700K, that would be borderline acceptable to run an RTX 2070.

Since you already have ddr4, I wouldn't recommend buying new RAM.

To answer your question, Ryzen 3000 likes DDR4 3600MHz the most.

I have an i5 6600k and just upgraded from a 390 to the 5700 XT.

I have gotten a huge performance increase. Yes, the CPU now bottlenecks the system but I wanted an upgrade from the 390 and the only option that made sense to me was the 5700 XT.

I play at 1080P 144hz and I'm getting 30+ FPS more at much higher settings in PubG so I'm quite happy with the upgrade.

But you do understand you should be getting more and that you have stutters because of the CPU?

True. But performs the best with 3600. Works fine with 2133 too, not that it should be used.

It does of course depend on the timings... 3600 with crap timings will not outperform good 3200 RAM.

The bottleneck issue isn't as significant as people generally make it out to be, and is extremely dependant on what exactly you're doing on your system. Unless you're gaming at 1080p and 240+FPS or something crazy like that, it's not going to affect much of anything, and the worst you'll get is a few microstutters.

I went with the 2060s on my new build (ryzen 7 3800x) and have been really happy with it.  Past three GPU have all been AMD and I probably would have went 5700 or 5700xt but now I do some video editing too and AMD is severely lacking in their encoder to the point that none of the software suites will even bother writing code to support it anymore.  So just a heads up if it’s your gaming rig and only for gaming then your probably fine but if your not sure what you’ll be doing in the future then Nvidia is a safer bet that it will be supported.  Or you do the intel cpu with GPU enabled for quicksync as secondary gpu.  For all purpose use right now I think your either best with Nvidia GPU/AMD cpu or AMD GPU/intel cpu but a full AMD rig can leave you left out.  Just mentioning that now in case you have plans to change cpu next and are thinking of going to AMD that might effect your GPU choice now.

The hardware encoder in the 5700 series is actually on-par with NVENC if the software is configured properly. The software makers are just too stupid or too lazy to fix their poor coding to get it to work right. OBS has a pre-release patch available that makes it work perfectly well.

A 7700k can hit 4.8 + very easily and most can hit 5ghz with proper cooling.

 

Most games don't need those extra cores yet unless you plan to stream.. so I think the 7700k would be a good choice.

While this might be true it’s as you say you have to rely on the software manufacturer to support it and basically none have.  Also OBS is for streaming I believe. I was referring to actual content creation and in those circumstances none of the Corel or adobe software supports amd encoder (as far as I’m aware) and divinci did but then later didn’t and was buggy support at best when I tried it with my amd gpu.  So yea much of the blame should be on the software developers it’s also AMD just not having the leverage to get their tech supported.

Streaming, video recording, and screen capture/recording. It's not for editing content, but creating the content you edit.
