Hi all, been trying to put together my new pc for quite a while now; however, several hiccups have put my build on hold.

Such as, me bending the pins on my first motherboard (i'm an idiot P8Z77-M), and my second motherboard (P8Z77-M Pro) not making it past a simple post beep with a new cpu (no bent pins, and known working components).

DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD mine wound up dead... http://www.amazon.com/P8Z77-M-PRO-Intel-Micro-Motherboard/dp/B007RIFKUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391393727&sr=8-1&keywords=p8z77-m+pro

How do you guys/girls combat tech disasters? Purchasing an extra warranty for instance, or buying the best components from the best manufacturer. My build has ended up costing wayyy more than originally intended, with all this RMA this, return that, break that. Feeling like my tech skills are terrible. Has anyone had a similar experience? because I feel like I can't even build a simple gaming computer...

Could I have prevented this predicament, or installed things differently to prevent breakage?

Uhh. Are you sure everything is plugged in and you didn't zap the board with static electricity?

Asus boards are pretty good overall in terms of their quality imo. Maybe you just got a bad one. :(

There is a pinned post in the troubleshooting section specifically to help diagnose a no-POST situation. Have you checked that out?

Also, it's not because you received one bad board, that all of them are bad... ASUS is one of the biggest and most reliable board manufacturers in the world.

Thanks for the help MG2R I appreciate the feedback; however, I've already sent the board in for a refund. In the future I'll keep that in mind. wish someone would have said what you said to begin with; otherwise, I'd have kept troubleshooting to verify it was my board that was the problem. I have also sent a few of my components to a local reliable computer store to run some tests on for free on my RAM, psu, and cpu. I'm getting my new case/motherboard in tommorow. Fingers crossed :D

 @MG2R

Well, I assumed it was my board after I usb the "usb BIOS flashback feature" on the board, and updated the bios version. Reseated all my ram into various configurations to make sure it wasn't a dead stick of ram. Finally tried the "memOK!" button on the asus board to attempt to find if it was a memory compatability issue. I've had all my components working before I ordered a different board. Yes, it could have been another component, but I believe that to not be the case.

Bad boards happen, nothing you can do about it. As for the bent pins, mistakes are how you learn. Don't let it get to you, all of the frustration will be worth it when your build is complete.

Thanks! Getting the new stuff in tomorrow. Wish I could have learned that mistake without it costing a hundred dollars LOL.

Bad boards are a fact of life, telling people not to buy something just because yours was bad is stupid.

It's an opinion you don't have to take it to heart. It's just my experience, and checkout the newegg.com product page for the product. There are customers with similar experiences.

I try to do builds before I get drunk.

I have had plenty of "Oh Fuck" moments but try to take things slow and steady now.

When my brain says GO, GO, GO, my instincts kick  in and say Slow, Slow, Slow.

Nothing to see here - move along.
