Unix Timestamp Overflow, Is it time to start highlighting the issue?

Hi All,

By January 19, 2038. Less than 19 years from now the Unix timestamp will overflow (Which is not that far considering how many applications needs to be updated).

It might be a good idea to bring attention to this problem early.

Thanks,

Adel

That's only a problem for 32 bit systems which will most likely be completely gone by 2038.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

by 2038 most software will be recompiled or modified to use 64 bit variables. or even 128 bit.

will have a repeat of year 2k panic but most likely nothing bad will happen.

I hope so, but reality is different. Many legacy applications are still in production.

Why do you think we still have internet explorer for? The same legacy applications, of course!

IE6 isn't 40 years old.
