So i got far cry 3 a while back with the never settle bundle. The problem im facing is that uplay refuses to start the download as a result i need to download it from another place, would it be illegal and morally wrong to get it from a torrent?

I have very little knowledge on torrents at the moment so i wouldnt know these kinda rules.

what? uplay doesn't download? haven't heard of that before. :D You do own a license of Far Cry 3 so it should be legal. But on the other hand it's not like getting a virtual image of a DVD in order to play a game, rather then having to insert the disk. It is more like you have the game AND you get another copy from elsewhere. So technically you have  2 fully playable versions of Far Cry 3, the one you downloaded and the other one in form of the License, that you recieved with your bundle. Edit: the difference is that you don't need your license key anymore in order to play the game, which is illegal.

Try downloading uplay again, it has to work.

who cares...

As long as you can prove you own the game legitimately then then it should be fine.

Depends where you live.

In the UK it is legal to download a torrent for something you already own.

change your avatar before @Windspeed36 gets pissed and gives you a warning.

I have always thought the policy is, you are not allowed to download games anywhere unless the publisher has listed it.

its similar to emulators and roms, it is illegal to download a game that you already own, if you buy a game you "own" 1 copy, but by downloading another its seen as stealing another copy.

Never heard that before.

Immoral? No

Illegal? Maybe, but if you ever found the police knocking at your door or a court summons, you could easily prove that you own a copy and I doubt it would be taken any further.

You do realize that it is very unlikely to happen anyway, they are more interested in the people who distribute it initially.

And why can't you download it? Have you not got in contact with Uplay/Ubisoft?

No it isnt.

His licence isnt comparable to the product. He has purchased a licence to use the software, not the actual software.

Did some research and yes it is illegal in the UK, you can rip your own DVDs, games and music but it has to be from your own copy.

File sharing is still illegal...

Still don't understand why you can't download it properly, get in contact with Ubisoft if you are having issues.

Same thing happened to me. Ubisoft tells me to contact Nvidia and Nvidia tells me to contact Ubisoft...but I didn't care enough to pursue it further.

That... musta sucked...

Same here with Blacklist... UPlay forces you to download/install games on your C drive (mine is a 128 GB SSD) so I can't play the game unless I got it by other means. At least here in Finland downloading torrents isn't illegal, sharing them is.

The whole system is defunct in pretty much every country, you really just have to go by your moral compass.

In my book as long as you are supporting the artist/creator then its all good.

If you were to end up getting prosecuted I get the feeling that the judge would be more pissed off at the prosecution side for wasting taxpayers money in the event that you actually owned a copy.

No it doesn't. All of my Uplay games are on a separate drive.

I had the exact same problem, when you install Uplay is wants to go on your C: drive, which is only a 128gb SSD in my case, and I didn't want that, so I switched the file path to D:, and installed...The game just wouldn't download when I did that...

Turns out when Uplay installed to my D: drive, it still wrote some files to my user file which is on my SSD, so it wouldn't download...

I ended up just copying the required files over to D: drive and it worked fine, I was able to download Assassins Creed fine after that.
