Recommended Specs For A Server PC (Primarily Modded MC and Rust)

Acrain7

Hello All, I am in the planning stages of building my own server rack / pc within my house to run 24/7 as (primarily) a Modded Minecraft Server, as my MCProhosting server simply isn't cutting it and above all else i just don't want to continue support the type of companies that rip-off unsuspecting customers with lackluster specs at a rather high premium. (just in case it matters, we have around 82 mods at the moment and counting.) I'd love to spend no more than a max of $500, preferably $400- what specs would you recommend i use? (a pcpartpicker list would be preferable)

I'm also curious about server vs consumer cpus and motherboards for these type of use cases; what are the real benefits, downfalls, and noteworthy details of one way or another?

Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

-GP

(oh, almost forgot, i have 100mbs up and down ((damn optimum and regionalization!)), and i presume that that'll be enough)

You may want to consider using AWS. Considering it's probably against your internet company's TOS to host a game server.

Charters TOS is unenforceable honestly.  It says...

Quote

Customer will not use, or allow others to use, Customer's home computer as a web server, FTP server, file server or game server or to run any other server applications or to provide network or host services to others via Charter's network

This makes playing games on XBox Live against the ToS, as there are games with P2P match hosting.

Up couple of years ago a small batch of server-esque pcs (server-esque because they were just general consumer towers used as dial-in workstations, but, hey, it was technically a server.) were run in-house for a number of years and never any trouble was had, and especially since it's a small minecraft server i doubt that they'd worry their bloated heads over it too-too much.

as for AWS, i'd really like to have it be a physical server in house, but i'll keep that in mind!

it would also technically make hosting a LAN world in minecraft or a CSGO workshop map lobby illegal as well! :D

Choose your own case. If you have a cheapo GPU laying around, you can go for that instead.

Ok, here’s something that should do it for ya. It’s over budget (like $60, sorry) but if you’ve got your own case and power supply, then it’s right about where you want to be.

Why the RX 570?

There are cheaper 32GB RAM combos out there.

Bad PSU.

It's a server. Don't need a GPU. A cheap display adapter is enough.

I believe it would be plenty, and if it isn't it's easy to upgrade. Go for the 16.

My guess is it's probably not worth their time. By the way, I commend you on using airmessage. You get the best of both worlds that way.
