Vega 64 / Vega 56 with Evga 500BQ

feisi200

Hey everyone, so here is my full current setup:

CPU: AMD FX 6200
GPU: RX 560 4GB
MOBO: ASROCK 980DE3/U3S3
RAM: 8GB DDR3
PSU: EVGA 500 BQ (i have to spare 350W psu)
HDD : WD BLUE 2TB,1TB Seagate
SSD: Crucial mx500 250GB
Case : Sharkoon-m25 white

I'M GONNA UPGRADE TO:

CPU:Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: Vega 64
MOBO: MSI B450-A PRO
RAM: 16GB DDR4
PSU: EVGA 500 BQ (i can maybe use for a while the 350W additional PSU to just additional power that gpu needs until im gonna buy a new one..)
HDD : WD BLUE 2TB,1TB Seagate
SSD: Crucial mx500 250GB
Case : Sharkoon-m25 white

And to my question: will i be able to run this config using this poor psu. It will be just for some time because i wont probably have enough money to spend another 100$ on PSU. And if i won't be able to run it, maybe some Underclock of GPU would help it ? If yes how much of a performance hit would it get  ?

Thanks for any answers.

Vega has really demanding transient power draw, I wouldn't trust a BQ to handle the power spikes.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Did you already build the system or buy the psu? If not how much would you be paying for the 500bq?

You could run it on the 500bq for a little while, i would just keep an psu upgrade in mind though. Also have you considered amd's new rx 5700 or 5700 xt navi cards? If your looking for around vega 56/64 performance than the rx 5700 could be a good value, depending on the prices in your country of course.

I'm buying used gpu so vega 64 will cost me something around 300$-350$, rx 5700 new cost 500$ and xt version 600$

That's pretty awful. The 5700XT is just over €400 in the Netherlands, which places it right at former Vega56 pricing, while considerably faster.

I would not run a Vega card with that PSU. Vega loves power ?

You’re asking for advice, someone said you could run it for a while, I’m telling that person I personally would not.

Well you need to make some decision  then, when could you potentially buy a new psu?

i think i would be running it for atleast 2 months in this config, in worst case i have 350W poor psu that could maybe run just additional wats for gpu  ?

Trust me, neither would i and i dont recommend it either but if there isnt room in the budget for even a cx or something then you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes

You should prioritise. I'd get the PSU now and save up for a better GPU deal.

that's dumb because ryzen 5 2600 wouldn't run anything much better than vega 64 which is still fine for me cuz i want very high / ultra gaming in 1440p and also productive stuff as a programmer

Maybe dont buy as much storage or ram and buy a good power supply then upgrade the ram and storage later on as they can be easily upgraded.

Why do you need 32 gigs of ram for gaming and programming?

Chrome is constantly using a lot. When i need unity that needs something and sometimes after effect oof that hurts with 8GB ram..

32gb? For what exactly.

you asked advice my advice is get a better PSU first, then a new GPU. 350w will not be enough to run that system without lack of power / crashes / shutdowns

The R5 2600 is more than enough for gaming at 1440p and higher. And you don't have the budget for a faster card either, so what's the problem anyway.
