550w for a Ryzen 3700x?

Brilew

I currently have a rig running a oc'ed GTX 1080 and a i5 4590 on a 550w Bronze. Should I get a better power supply if I'm upgrading to a Ryzen 7 and plan on overclocking it along with the ram? Thanks for taking the time and reading this!

550Watt could be enough if its a high quality PSU.
Altho it might be running close to full power tho, but PSU are the most effecient at 60%-80% power usage.

But if you gonna OC anyhting like you mentioned, you might need a couple more Watts. But most important is good quality! (Check PSU tier list get from tier 1)

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

That will be tough for sure at least 850w gold would be nice for 93% effecientcy

What location/budget?
The LTT-forum might be able to help find you a good one.
Cus if 700W i would expect a lot more then just bronze.

I'm willing to spend 100 dollars max on a PSU. I'll buy it in paraguay (I live in brazil but it's way too expensive here), and its a bit more expensive than the us. an 100 dollar PSU should be 120 over there, so I'll actually be spending more, but I'd like to know some good ones at around 100 dollars US

Don't even bring efficiency into recommendations for PSUs. If you do it shows that you have very limited knowledge of PSUs and their quality.

At least it isnt as arrogant as taking apart a post and proving no real reasoning.

Check some PSUs in the list @Redicat linked. Start from the top and work your way down. So you can find the best option. (maybe skip the ultra high end as thats very expencive.)

What?! Dude you do not need 850w for that.

550-650 is plentiful.

Lol what?

My 5820k/GTX 1080 with everything overclocked barely pulls 400w according to my UPS. The 3700x has half the power draw of the 5820k.

his current 550W bronze should be fine if it's a good quality one

having a higher 80+ rating and wattage may reduce his power bills, but will that justify his cost of changing a PSU is debatable

i have a 620W bronze psu running a 970 and 1070 together, 24/7.

nothing exploded, yet

the silver/grey or green labelled ones?

green label vs grey label

Spoiler

Image result for cx450 psu Image result for cx450 psu

iirc, the green labelled ones are kinda trash, the silver one is the later versions, which are much better built

i might be wrong though, not a PSU expert

Guys... there was never a green label CX550. The only CXes 550W in existence are grey label, only one version.

The group regulated green label ones were 430W, 500W and 600W.
