Annoying buzzing noise

henro1232

Hi,

My PC's been making this horrendous buzzing noise. I've stopped all the fans and the noise was still made, so it's not those.

Sometimes it only happens when there's pressure on my desk e.g. my arms or a coffee mug. CPU / GPU load does not affect it and it just randomly comes and goes.

Please help as it's really annoying,

Henry

i'd guess its the pump but it's hard to tell from this video. it should be easier to point out if you take the side panel off

Unless its the PSU fan lol,, which I sorta doubt.  Stick a screw driver and stop the PSU fan as well unless it is not spinning.  I was just kidding about the screw driver trick LOL.

But ya its your pump my friend like I said.

Try setting the video card fans to 0 percent so they dont spin as well.  Then well know for shure its the pump and what not.

I've tried turning off all the fans and the noise remained. Would NZXT fix it under warranty or is there anything I can do?

How long have you had the unit ?  Also yes this bad boy needs to be RMAed.  I bet my life its the pump if you stopped all your fans.  It is only going to get worse then die on you and possibly kill your CPU if you leave comp on at night lol.

I think NZXT is 3 years warranty but don't quote me on that.

I've only had it ~6 months and it has a 6 year warranty. I'm sending it back tomorrow for a replacement. And, it's funny you mention it dying, as it started making an even louder noise yesterday and I thought nothing of it until CAM gave me a notification saying that the CPU was over 100C (at idle), and the pump doesn't work at all anymore ?

Thanks for the help

Good deal my friend.  What are you going to do in meanwhile ?  Do you have a cheap heatsink / fan or you gonna lose your PC for who knows how long.  I don't know if NZXT has good RMA or their lag.  It can even take 2 weeks just depends.  I hate to have you no PC for that long.  Man you lucked out 100c is crazy.  The system should shut down automatically to save the CPU cuz I guess your TJ MAX is 100c  ,, Im shocked it didn't explode.  This is why we use software to monitor the pump.  Also imagine leaving it on for the night and the pump which noise got louder which I said it would stops and your CPU goes to 100c.  But it should have shut down your computer !  So actually you cant burn a CPU ya know.. But its not very happy sitting at 100c that's all.

Anyway, so sorry for the late reply but I sent my cooler off to NZXT for an RMA. I bought a cheap stock heatsink off eBay for while I wait. So I installed it and turned my pc on, only to discover to my horror that the buzzing noise was still there after the cooler had been removed. I don't know what it is and I just don't know what to do at this point...

Oh man this is a tough one.  If your hearing buzzing on 2 HSF's then its not the HSF.  The buzzing has to be the PSU or the GPU and what not.

I just recorded this now. When I recorded this, my GPU fans were not spinning and as you could see I set the PSU fan to 0%. Could it be the HDD? Sometimes it almost seems like the buzzing noise changes when the HDD is under heavy load...

Nope its not the hard drive or it would be dead by now.  HD's make tick tick noises and die.  So your GPU fans are zero so is PSU but still buzzing.. That is a tough one.  Can you fill out your signature or give us your system specs and we can help you better.

Now Im thinking it might be one of your fans in the case ?  Is there anyway you can check that.. Like disconnect the fans just for a short period to see if you still get the buzzing noise.

If you stopped your HSF and your GPU and your PSU and your case . So nothing is spinning.  After reviewing your info and your posts I think you have a weird case of your hard disk drive going south.  I would point my finger at the hard drive.  There is nothing else left to do.  The HDD is spinning at 7200rpm at all times and is the only thing in your system that is spinning.  Also mobo's do not make a buzzing noise.  I point my finger at the hard drive.  Did you try disconnect all HDD , except your SSD of course.

Yeah I unplugged the HDD and the noise stopped. I'll just have to buy a new one and transfer my data.
