What if our hard drives could be embedded in our mother boards like our cpus, while being the same size, with the capacity of a few petabytes?

This is... REALLY slow. totally inefficient

Being able to store a lot of data into something really small is nothing new and means jack shit in practice; things like this have been done a billion times already and do we actually see any of such developments in use? No, because these kinds of things almost never turn out actually practical -- either they're way too expensive, or require way too complicated equipment to manufacture, or they're too fragile even for business-environments, or all three.

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.

fragile, expensive and slow is often words used to describe such designs, sadly

like crystals to store petabytes!  they are everywhere now! no?

idk thou if its the same chip as the CPU it will be too slow even a seperate 1 is still slow if its a bad 1 like sata 2/3,PCie Gen 3x4, etc.

Yes, right NOW it is, but in the future?

I am just exited for the possibilities.

It's basically the same as tape storage. It'll never be super fast. Once we can get 6-8tb NVME drives then I'll be amazed.

If read speeds are better (like, much better), an archival solution would be quite plausible.

Just use raid, you do know how tiny DNA is right?

Even now, the biggest factors are going to be cost and size of the device.

Not looking forward to having a refrigerator embedded into my motherboard...

Might be necessary for Intel soon.
