Steam Sale Recommendations Please

celerystruct

Hello everyone,

I've only recently got into PC gaming and wanted to use this sale to beef up my Steam Library for the winter.

I like to play single player games. Open world would be nice too. I'd prefer if there was character creation but it's not required. RPG elements would be nice as well. I also enjoy good story and can overlook questionable gameplay if the story is fun.

I really like Dragon's Dogma and have been searching for games similar to it, if anyone knows anything any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I like games like Dark Souls as well.

I'm pretty open to playing things so please give me some recommendations on just about anything.

Thank you.

Assassins Creed Odyssey is on sale right now and according to the reviews it is very good with lots of play time.

If you have not played the Witcher 3 yet and you like RPG's, it's an absolute must play. Get it with both of the DLC's (The game of the year edition).

Oh I've already picked up Kingdoms of Amalur, heard great things about it and snagged it when I saw it was on sale.

I'm not the biggest fan of first person shooters in general. I liked Fallout but that was becasue the vats system made the shooting not feel like shooting lol. I'm just really bad at fps games.

But Borderlands 2 handsome edition is on sale for like $5. Do I need to play the 1st one at all or can i just jump into 2?

I strongly recomend the fallout series! it's way better on PC with modding support (it's super easy as well, it's very intuitive with the new mod launchers)
Fallout 3, new vegas and 4 are great imo

You can jump into #2 just fine.

Titan Quest is a top down action RPG, like Diablo 1-3.  It's not a first person shooter.  $4.

@jstudrawa @ELSknutson

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Also regarding the Steam sale do the discounts increase as the days go by or do they stay fixed for the entire sale?

They're fixed now.

Steam used to do flash sales but they stopped doing that about 2 years ago

I agree with the Fallout Series and also Skyrim should be added to the list.  There are thousands of mods to change appearance, interface, gear, new characters/companions, spells, and equipment.  It can make it like a new game.

The Handsome Jack collection mentioned earlier is also a really good deal.

Doom 2016 runs really well on PC and with Doom eternal coming in November It might be a good time to play through the series reboot.

Just Cause 3 is $3, I haven't played it yet but from all the videos I've seen it looks like a fun, ridiculous, open world. I probably wouldn't expect much from the story but for $3 you can't go wrong.

Here's 35 or so games to get your foot in the door. These are mostly based off what you described so if I left out anything it's because you didn't include that aspect for game recommendations.

  • Divine Divinity
  • Beyond Divinity
  • Half Life 2
  • Portal 2
  • Enclave
  • Sacred Gold
  • TinyKeep
  • How To Survive
  • Left 4 Dead 2 (ignore the fact that you might suck at fps games)
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Don't Starve
  • Gothic 3
  • Saints Row The Third
  • The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing
  • The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II
  • The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III
  • The Vagrant
  • Just Cause 2
  • Just Cause 3
  • Two Worlds Epic Edition
  • The Witcher 2
  • How to Survive 2
  • Dust An Elysian Tail
  • Divinity II Developer's Cut (you get this, Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity in a $3.00 Steam bundle right now)
  • Undertale
  • Craft The World
  • Black Desert Online (ya' gotta have some MMORPG, awesome character creation)
  • Shadow of Mordor GOTY (get anytime at Fanatical.com)
  • Cities Skylines
  • 7 Days To Die (highly recommend this game, especially if you know nothing about it, just blind buy it and you can't regret it)
  • The Witcher 3 (standard or GOTY, you can't go wrong with either)
  • Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition
  • Planet Coaster
  • Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition (all the character creation you've ever dreamed of)
  • Monster Hunter World

A few of these might not be the lowest prices right now but most of them are very near to their historic low prices or else I wouldn't even recommend them. And as for all the other games I do recommend, they're simply not on great sale prices and should be picked up randomly throughout the year.

Just saw that Portal 2 is $0.99, it's one of the best games ever made IMO, great gameplay & story with excellent voice acting.

Thank you.

Here are some games you might like:

-Metro  (Metro 2033 and Last light on sale for 7,48 euro, very cheap, of you like them then buy Metro exodus)

-Tomb raider series (buy 2013 tomb raider ,it's only 3 euros and if you like it,continue with Rise of the tomb raider and Shadow of the tomb raider)

-Borderlands

-Bioshock series (The entire collection can be bought for 15 euros,it has 3 games)

-Half life (if you haven't played it yet, order is like this: half life 1 (it's old,but if you don't like it,remastered version is called "Black Mesa"),half life 2,half life 2 ep 1,2)

-Call of duty Modern Warfare series (old but gold)

-The witcher series (I really recommend starting with the witcher 1,but it's up to you)

-Mass effect

-The walking dead telltale series( I honestly don't think it can be bought from steam anymore, but the story is just fantastic. If you find it anywhere, buy it)

-GTA (obviously)

-Far cry series (Order doesn't matter at all, my personal favorite is far cry 3)

-valiant Hearts  (its about 4 euros, really good story and gameplay)

-papers please (5 euros on steam, great game)

Hope I helped you :D
