Do anyone think that SD cards will ever replace SSDs?

ANyone think it is coming at all? with possible 3 and 2nm making processes coming along I think it could very well be done. Just imagine it. 

 

So much space savings

Oh I was actually thinking of more in the line of using those 3/2nm controllers to fit it onto a SD card size chips to function the same as a SSD/NVME drive

that would give them similar random reads/write. 

 

Like in the same size format of an SD card.

SD Cards have TERRIBLE random write/read and latency as they lack the fancy controllers on SSDs that makes things actually fast, it's 2 completely different storage solutions.

No the interface is slow, and the random read/write is terrible. So until that gets fixed it's not possible that they will.

There's form factor limitations that physically can't be overcome.  Even when we moved to M.2 from 2.5" we saw drives overheating in extended workloads.

no.

SD cards are an older tech and though they have reached their limit they are not designed to perform in the same manner.

Even though you got kinda rekt, rejoice!

There are sd sized nvme drives these days (mostly integrated, but still)

I once gave Luke and Linus pizza.
