Benefits of USB 3.0 for Keyboard & Mouse

Prox1ma

Are there any performance gains in using USB 3.0 ports for peripherals like Keyboard, Mouse and Headphones? I got a rift recently and I need a few extra 3.0 ports for the sensors. If I use a splitter to split one 3.0 port to say 4 type A ports and connect my keyboard, mouse and headphones to that (so essentially they all share a single usb controller) will it result in any performance drops ?

usb is of no hinderance to performance to a kb or mouse

you're talking about mere bits of data those devices use. keep in mind you would struggle to max out the keyboard bus bandwidth on an apple 2 let alone a modern machine

No. USB Mice and Keyboards don't use USB 3.0 at all. It will make no difference whatsoever. All USB 3.0 does is increase data transfer speed and makes a few changes to power delivery. None of that effects Mice and Keyboards whatsoever. Most will be using USB 1.1 chips anyway.

Keyboards and mice as far as I know are still USB 2.0. They'll only operate as a USB 2.0 device in a USB 3.0 port.

It depends on how much current the devices connected to the hub need and if the hub is self-powered or USB-powered. The devices should say how much current they should draw, at worst anyway. If the total exceeds 1A (or 1000mA), it might cause issues.

USB ports or even HUBs do not change anything at all.
