x5675 vs 2600k

I have a p8p67 pro system right now with a 2500k and a 980ti arriving tommorow. I want to play at 144fps 1080p on rainbow six siege. I want to know if i should buy a new x58 motherboard and some ecc ram (or what i have now if it is compatiable) and oc an x5675 or if i should keep my current motherboard and put a 2600k in it instead. I don't do any workstation/editing/renedering stuff just gaming and desktop use. Thanks!

You should either get the 2600k or ideally just use your i5s potential and OC that b*tch to 5ghz. Sandy Bridge usually OCs pretty damn well. Make sure you have a very good cooler though.

I've got a dh-n15 on it right now but i cant get it past 4.4ghz.

As someone with a 2700K, it's a great upgrade for not much money (I had a 2500K at 4.5 GHz originally). I have it running at 4.9 GHz and it's still running strong. I also have a 980 Ti.

 

Cooling is what will get you though, it pumps out a fair amount of heat.

Currently my 2500k at 4.47 ghz only runs at around 55c max. Would you say that the 2700k or 3770k is worth it over a 2600k?

3770K (last I checked) is still overpriced for what it is. Would also need to delid it to get best performance.

 

2700K I found actually cheaper than the 2600Ks at the time, so you might shop around. But if the 2700K costs a lot more, it's not really worth it. You still suffer from silicon lottery with these.

 

I think my 2500K ran 4.5 GHz at 1.4v if I remember right, but 55C max is pretty awesome. I think I ran to 80-85C in Intel Burn Test with the 2500K on my old hyper 212 with delta fans. I had to get a 240mm AIO to keep the 2700K happy (Air coolers like the noctua wouldn't fit my case)

X58 stuff dont support AVX, some games use that a lot and performance will tank hard. Either get new stuff or stick to 1155.

 

Safe 24/7 voltage for Sandy Bridge is 1.4 - 1.45V, depending on how daring you are. 4.5GHz is pretty easy to achieve, hitting 5GHz is possible on about top 30% of CPUs though after this time and age I expect most of them to have degraded to lower levels already.
