Why people critisize Huawei more than Oneplus on Spying

It comes to my attention that the general public opinion that I know of critisize Huawei's spying for Chinese government a lot. But also being a Chinese tech compnay, Oneplus does not receive the same level of criticism. My question is why? Given how Chinese government works, if Huawei is spying for the Chinese government, there is NOWAY oneplus is not doing it. Any thoughts or more info about this topic is appreciated.

First of all if your using a Verizon or AT&T or any major US carrier your probaly being spyed on.Not justifying chinas actions.Just saying. Also compared to Huawei I'm pretty sure you its easy to turn off as its in a setting called turn off user experience

Oneplus certainly sends some information to their servers in China as has been previously documented, which even ignoring Chinese spying shouldn't shock you (read telemetry). Huawei is not only a mobile electronics manufacturer but also a network equipment manufacturer (switches, routers, aps, etc.) so they have a much wider impact and are more well known whereas Oneplus is a rather niche manufacturer. Should also be noted that Oneplus had a revenue of $1.4 billion USD in 2017 vs Huawei's $105 billion in 2018. That alone should tell you the scale of each company and why one is more publicly criticized than the other.

How do you know it is actualled turned off tho. LOL. Just like win10. you can turn telemetry data off, but we all know it's still sending them.

Pretty simple: OnePlus is just a phone company, and not a big one at that (even though it's connected to a much larger brand, BBK).  Huawei, meanwhile, is both considerably larger and makes wireless infrastructure equipment.  The concern is that Huawei could eavesdrop on communications if it had backdoors and other spyware sitting on its gear.  There's no evidence it has been using that tech, but that's what people are worried about.

 

If OnePlus had spying software?  Well, it'd maybe catch the conversations of a few million tech enthusiasts scattered across the world.  Not exactly a viable surveillance technique.

That's a fair point. Because Huawei do other networking staff, and spying on a wider range.

That's my first reaction as well. But also from others, it's because Huawei do more than just smartphone market. So they spying have a wider impact.

Samsung has fewer reasons to spy on you, even if they did, the consequences would likely be much more harmful for Samsung and less harmful for the end user rather than with Huawei. Plus the CCP has already proven that they can shut down companies that have agendas that lie contrary to the their own, and that they will steal and leverage whatever data they can take and get away with. South Korea is much less likely to force companies to comply with their agendas.
