Where to get films and TV shows for htpc/server stored

Hey guys,

I've got a htpc and I've got a few things stored on it.

I was wanting to connect it to my network and store a bunch of films and stuff on my server.

Where can I download films and that and store locally

From rips that you make of DVDs and Blurays that you already own.

I mean is there an easier/cheaper way I can just download them

I don't think there's a legal way to download movies.

The best thing is ripping from your legally owned dvds.

With so much streaming service, makes owning a movie files really not worth it.

SOME DVD's and blurays that you purchase include a "digital download" key, you can use those when available (provided the service hasn't shut down) beyond that ripping is your only quasi-legal option.

until the streaming service loses the rights to the movie/tv show you own, or the movie/tv show isn't even on any of the services.

Amazon is your Friend. You buy the movies and series you want. You can also check the $5 bin at Walmart, they sometimes have good shit in it. Then you use something like MakeMKV to rip the disk. At this stage you can take out the extra language tracks and sub titles, just be careful with the subtitles because some movies use foreign languages in parts and you might need sub titles for those parts. Once you get the .MKV file you throw that up on your media server.

Bandwidth caps. Thats why I invested in a Plex server and I have probably 100+ DVD and Blu Ray.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That's my biggest source of movies. Dollar stores are another source. If you don't mind used, thrift stores are another possibility.
