Zalman's reputation for PSUs is somewhere between not recommended and fire hazard, but maybe they've gotten better? Couldn't tell ya for sure.

Zalman actually has top of the line PSUs as well, some are even better than stuff like the Corsair RMx, it is all about model and not brand as always.

Really?  I have never heard this.

So people should avoid the Acrux and Gold Rock series?  Hmm...

As far as "gotten better", they were never really bad across the board.  The EBT series (Sirfa based Gold series) from a couple years got reviewed fairly well.  The FSP based ZM600-HP actually got a recommended on jonnyguru.com back in 2007.

It wasn't tested thoroughly at all, but at least it isn't group regulated.

A similarly looking PSU was reviewed though:

Better than some other units, obviously, but far from good...

Ripple on minor rails is on the high side, +12V also over 60mV, efficiency pretty low, fan speed on the high end though no comperisation to the XFX units...

Also the unit looks like a 120mm fan might have been quieter and the 140mm it comes with is just total nonsense that doesn't offer any advantage but make the unit louder.

On the Plus side protection somewhat work...

Though UVP doesn't seem to be there on 12V...
