MSI r7790 card, what to do with it?

BootyDustBandit

okay, so I have this old card that I found in a storage bin in the box of an RX 560 since apparently this was the card in the system I have the 560 in and I was wondering what I should do with it. The card isn't too powerful and will probably run most games at 1080p but not with max settings obviously. So its pretty useless for gaming, so what to do with it? I thought maybe using it in a server or something at a later date or selling it or maybe mining with it (however unprofitable that may be) the card was free so as long as it pays for more then electricity costs i'm good. Of course it could just go in the old GPU pile and do nothing, but it at least has a little potential as far as how much power it has so I am interested to see what people think.

It's still gold for most games at 720p, and can handle a lot of slightly older to old games at 1080p. Runs rings around the GT 1030, and people keep insisting that that's a viable budget gaming card. It's better than you're giving it credit for.

i never had a chance to really play with the older radeon cards really, i just saw what UB told me XD (and the fact that they are still 300 dollars on amazon because nobody bought them and they didn't update prices.)

It's still a decent card. Nothing spectacular and even a 750 Ti will outperform it, but if you're so inclined, you could pair it with a 720p, 768p or 900p monitor and market it with a straight face as an entry-level gaming combo.

1GB VRAM holds it back, but its plenty capable for many uses.

HTPC Decoder/Encoder/Lighter Games+LowerSettings/Emulation Direct3D Acceleration/Abandonware or Old 3D games/Gift to a less fortunate.....

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Now you're really running rings around my head, aren't GT1030 and GTX750Ti similar in games?

The 750 Ti is noticeably faster than the 1030. The 1030 is more on par with something like the non-Ti 750.

The 2GB 7790 and a 2GB 260/x are pretty much the same thing and driver "profile" updates may be the only change in performance (IMO)

(different bios/tweaks/timings/memory configs) but very similar variables on the same architecture.
