Buying RAM off Ebay?

I'm considering doubling the RAM in my computer and have been waiting for prices to drop. I found an Ebay listing for less than any other vendor online, only it is being sold by an individual and I don't have the security of a seller like Newegg. Should I avoid this listing or is it a good alternative since it is still a new item?

eBay will protect you as a buyer more than almost any other e-tailer.  Buy with confidence, but don't expect a deal that's too good to be true to work out.  You'll get your money back, but not the product you hope to purchase.

Do you really want RGB ram?  You could get 3000 16GB kit for around 100$ instead

Ram is hard to break, buying used is pretty good.

I buy all my components off Ebay, i have had more broken stuff from CEX, never had a single broken item from Ebay.

Any decent RAM company will offer a lifetime warranty, so if it doesn't work, just open a ticket and get it replaced.

No, but I already have RGB ram so I need to get the same kit. (Unless I can get ram with the same timings that's just not RGB, but then it won't match).

True, though would the warranty from Gskill still apply?

Update: it's now $105 + $8 on Ebay so $113 and it's $125 on Newegg, so I might as well get it from Ebay.

 

Edit: Gskill's warranty only applies to the original purchaser, so I guess I should go with Newegg (not that I expect memory to fail).

I used to say never buy used on Ebay or take the risk...then I started buying used PC parts on Ebay - there is no risk imho with the protections afforded by Ebay and Paypal.

Yeah, there's definitely some risk, but that's mostly mitigated if you only buy from people who accept PayPal.

I'm not worried about getting the wrong product or anything Ebay could cover, but the product I do get will no longer be covered by Gskill's warranty according to their website. Still, it might not matter.

If Warranty matters get Patriot memory, 10 years or lifetime depends on the item iirc - its cheaper than Gskill and well...I don't see a difference in the two since they source from the same memory makers.

I'm getting Gskill for sure because I already have one of the identical kit and I'm doubling my current capacity. I'm just weighing saving $13 and likely never needing the warranty and spending the $13 to get a warranty I'll likely never use.

Tough call, I always go budget oriented as much as possible.  

 

My opinion - you already have a set of working RAM - if it DOES go bad, you aren't going to have a potato sitting there but a still functional PC - save the $13

 

Ive received DOA RAM before

Ive never had RAM bork on me within the Warranty period.  The only time Ive had RAM go out on me was right AFTER the warranty which feels bad (like planned obsolescence)

Yeah I'll probably just save the $13 especially since the seller is pretty close to me. Of course if it ends up being DOA the warranty is irrelevant since Ebay will take care of it. I'm getting tired of not having enough RAM for things!

Ahhhhh I just looked at your sig - I was rocking 8gb for like 8 months in my 1700 cause RAM prices back at release of Ryzen. Yes 16 is a must for a gamer or tasker

I already have 16gb, I'm going for that sweet 32gb so I can run chrome, video editors, virtual machines, and or game at the same time.
