RX VEGA 56 8 GB VS GTX 1660Ti

BLUEELEPHANT

Radeon RX VEGA 56 8 GB vs GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Graphics Card.

Making a PC (mainly for gaming) wondering which graphics card to buy - they're around the same price in my country - which one would you recommend. Using a Ryzen 2600X processor.

Welcome to the forum!

Might as well go with the 1660 Ti, it performs like a 1070 which tends to be neck in neck with a Vega 56 with respects to gaming performance.

The X is only 6-7% more expensive, still not worth?

Depends on if you are oc:in or not. 2600 + decent tower cooler is better if you oc to 4,2GHz on all cores.

Vega 56 is more power hungry. 1660ti peaks under 140W, Vega 56 peaks over 300W. Even with undervolting 1660ti is more than 50W lower.

True, any recommendations for the CPU cooler if I was going to oc the 2600

Depends solely on where you are. In EU Arctic Freezer 34 is about 22€ in amazon.de.

You can do some on the stock cooler. Just up the fancurve.

Arctic freezer 33/34, dark rock 4 or any decent towercooler.

Then again, people dont care about powerdraw. They might care about noise however. Though not everyone does

Personally, I can't stand when something is not economic, consumes too much energy, heats like hell and noisy. The difference in performance is very marginal, vega generally costs a bit more than 1660ti, and you need a private nuclear reactor for feeding that beast.

I would not buy Vega. And I can't understand those, who don't care about power consumption. If everyone would think like that, we'd ruin this planet at even faster pace..

well, looking aside the fact that it isnt priced higher (according to OP), you only need a good quality 500/550 watt PSU to feed it. and one should be getting a good quality PSU regardless.

well if its 5-8% faster and costs the same. isnt it more economic? oh while im on it, you can autoundervolt the card if you dont like tweaking.

because to most people powerconsumption is irrelevant, they care about the biproducts of powerconsumption (or at least some do). though all of those canbe mittigated.

well...... if you havent noticed, people care about money, not powerconsumption. but shure, you can allways run the cards at peak effiency, but then you wouldnt get the performance.

You cant just autoundervolt it. That's unstable at least with mine. Vega56 is nice if you get a decent aftermarket cooler and those 3 games with it and its priced correctly. Vegas also have quite random hot spot temps that lead to auto fan curves going crazy.

silicon lottery i suppose. but at least you have the ability to autoundervolt it.

they use TJmax temp when doing their boost. which can lead to that. a good cooler should negate this

Depends on the VEGA and 1660Ti Card

If we're talking about Blower cards: NOT THE BLOWER. NEVER get a Blower!

The Sapphire Pulse and Powercolor Red Dragon seem rather quiet.

I only have a Sapphire Nitro+ VEGA64 and its quieter and cooler than my Powercolor RX480 Red Devil.

Depends on the pricing.

Sometimes you find negligable differences between the two like 20€ or so.

Right now its 40€

That Amount I'd agree with you, the 2600 is more worth it.

How much would that be in Eurodollars??

But right now, I'd get a good quality board and the cheapest 6 Core you can get, save money for Ryzen 3000.

As for the Heatsink: You don't really need a heatsink. Only if you ar every sensitive about noise.

For a 1600, sure, but the 2600 ships with the shitty Wraith, not the good one.

I must admit: I know few people, who just underclock (reduced clock and memory speeds) and -undervolt it due to keeping the power requirements in check. Sorry for missing the OP's mention of prices, Here Vega56 is a bit more expensive.
