b450 tomahawk 2700x

2700x then

That's the CPU, not GPU. At 1440p you're pushing the GPU harder, so a better one will help more than a CPU with more cores that aren't used by games. Not really any games I know of that scale well past 6 cores, sure some will use 8+ but you don't get a performance boost over a 6 core in most titles, so 2600 is the best value.

will a b450 tomahawk work with a 2700x and a rtx 2070?

also im looking to game at 1440p, im going to be buying a new monitor. is a 2700x worth it for 1440p? yes im looking at 144hrz

You won’t push 144hz at 1440p with that setup unless you lower settings.

I have a 1080p 144hz with a 2060 and a 1800x @4ghz and I can’t max stuff out at 1080p at that framerate. I have to lower settings but I’m ok with that and went into it knowing what was gonna happen

Yeah it'll work, and you should be able to do some overclocking since the B450 tomahawk has pretty good VRMs.

Keep in mind that resolution is more GPU bound, not CPU bound. As you move up into higer resolutions, the game will stress the graphics card more than the CPU. The 2070 can easily manage 1440p, but not 144hz.

2600 and 2700 have similar FPS.

It depends on what games you're playing.

There probably won't be too much of a difference. You can just get a Ryzen 3000/Zen 2 chip when it gets released and slap it in the B450 tomahawk.

So I should go with a 2600x then get the 3000 series when it releases. Have a Rtx 2070 with a 2600x and I’ll be able to do 1440p?

The 2070 does 1440p just fine.

cpu won’t be an issue here. Get the 2600x and the 2070 and upgrade to a 3000 series Ryzen down the line :)

You can do high settings but you won't be able to get 144fps for the monitor so consider getting a freesync 1440p monitor.

depends on game. like csgo on ultra settings im pushing 250-300fps. but BFV with near ultra settings, few small tweaks, ray tracing on DX12 on, around 75-100fps

2600x is a waste of money , just get a 2600

I agree. Roughly 35USD price difference, but, overclocking stock 2600 will close the gap between the two. And that MSI Tomahawk is one of the best B450 board for OC& tuning.

Most games (yet) don't benefit from 8c/16t anyway, so, 2700 is only marginally better than 2600 for gaming.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

So so then a 2600 with a 2070. Ray tracing will be turned off. For 1440p free sync?

I’ll be able to run those games?

I’ll upgrade to 3000 series if the b450 tomahawk would be able to use it

AMD said they would support the AM4 socket until 2020, meaning that all CPUs up until 2020 will be using the original Ryzen socket. You'll be able to use it.

It'll be able to run the games but don't expect to hit 144 fps.

What would help increase it to 144fps ?

the 2700x?

do you think the 3000 series will even be worth it

Based on what we know about the 3000 series, it looks to be good but no one can be sure since it hasn't been released and there's been almost no official information about it.

It's kind of hard to answer if the 3000 series will be the worth it.

A better GPU would help with better FPS at 1440p.
