Is the RTX 2070 enough for Apex Legends?

trzasku

Will the RTX 2070 graphics card be enough to play the following games in 3440x1440 on the max possible settings on 100 FPS? Or should I consider the RTX 2080?

  • Apex Legends
  • GTA 5
  • Witcher 3
  • World of Warcraft (+ external tool to max out graphic settings even further).
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

I understand that if I have an 100Hz monitor with G-Sync (Asus PG348Q) there is no sense to go higher than 100 FPS because my monitor is the bottleneck or am I wrong?

For ultrawide 1440p 100Hz max settings? Go the RTX 2080. Or just save some money and lower the graphical settings.

This is for 2560x1440, so expect 3440x1440 results to be lower.

You might want to buy a console then.

Not with max settings, you need drop some details. Max settings is stupid anyway in Apex.

Save for the 2080 if you're willing to pay for a 2070... the 2070 costs quite much more than a 2060 already but barely adds as much performance as you'd expect... the 2080 however it's like the 1080 Ti and Radeon 7 a beast.

This.

I can get around 120-150 FPS at 1440p with around medium setting with my Vega 64.

Why would you even play most of those games at max settings...

For fps games you want the highest fps possible, higher than your monitor's refresh rate, and low or medium settings on the graphics.

Can you please explain :) Will there be a difference in gameplay if I have 150 fps but my monitor only supports 100 Hz?

Yes, more recent frames will be displayed on the monitor.

You might not notice much at 150, but play at 300fps on a 60hz monitor and then play at 60fps and you will notice how much more responsive 300fps feels.

you want some headroom so during fights you won't dip below 100hz, it's those moments that matter if you are competitive, I also personally don't like to push my gpu to 100% usage during a long gaming session, so headroom's always good, though you can save money with a 2060, turn everything down to medium, or spend some more for the 2080, avoid the 2070 like the plague (though it's not as bad in apex, in other games it's mostly 10% faster than a 2060 for 40% more.

Thanks for the percentages! That sound really bad. I will probably go for the 2080 then. I love having both good game visuals and fps. I am afraid there will be a big difference between medium/high and maxed out.

It's not just about headroom, a GPU pushes frames to the monitor as fast as it can create them.

If a more recent frame is sent to the monitor's buffer that means there is less latency between the frame being created and it being displayed on your screen.

It essentially reduces the delay between something happening in the game and you seeing it.

for 2080 i recommend the evga black if you wanna save some money, depending on where you live you can get it on bh or evga directly for 700usd.

The strix is 100usd more and if you oc both cards to max it's about a 5-7% difference.

Aside from Apex that I will play on medium/low settings, would the 2070 be able to push 60 fps on games like Witcher 3 or GTA 5?

Well RDR2 isn't on PC so yeah. Apex Legends would be fine at low/medium, and Witcher 3 and GTA 5 would run at 60fps with a mix of high and ultra. No idea about WOW and it's weird external tools.
