Faster service from Amazon?

pit5000

Amazon wants to ship stuff before you even order it!

http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/17/amazon-anticipatory-shipping/

This idea is they send it out in anticipation of you buying it, but if you don't actually buy it, they will just reroute last minute to somebody else who actually bought it.

I personally think this will be a logistics nightmare, I work for UPS and this can wreck havoc for those who actually have to intercept these packages.

Just thinking about how much shit they'd have to have ready for any given X person I can't imagine how they have so much resources to do that and still shave off enough to profit and expand while single handedly undercutting almost every other online company

Amazon is internet deity.

(if they mean something small like a book sequel then it's a bit easier to put in perspective)

This IS actually amazing. Amazon's warehouse will be in transit. If they can solve the equation, there is no doubting this will work.

Imagine this...

Let's say the town or city I live in, or even narrow it down to a street, or block, or apartment complex; has several Amazon shoppers who have similarily clicked on and viewed, or added to wish list, or even put in their cart in the same area of a same product. They figure someone out of the many may continue to checkout. They have the statistics. They may even ship two if the numbers are right.

Of course, obscure items will be the exception and more rural areas will not benefit from this....but extremely common items in dense areas this makes sense.

what if they make a series of under ground tunnels with packages in circulation on conveyer belts, then when someone orders something  it is shipped to the nearest ups place and then is sent to you. Just an idea though...

'wreck havoc' makes no sense, 'wreak havoc' on the other hand...

The success of this whole idea relies on the communication skills between the couriers and Amazon, I can see where this is going, and the couriers won't be too happy.

Every time I hear about amazon on the news I get reminded just how many resources they have. But couldn't you just troll them by looking up 120" TV's on amazon but never buying one?

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place
