Windows 10 Stripped down

Has anyone tried any of the stripped down versions of Windows 10? I currently have Windows 7 and not looking forward to upgrading in 2020. That being said, I know by default Win10 has a lot of bloatware and such. 

 

Any suggestions?

It will take some time to customize it, but it's basically you going through every setting in the Settings panel, Config, removing tiles from start, cleaning task bar and everything.

It can be done.

Make sure to make an image after you have done your hard work.

Just go through the settings and change anything you want to charge.

Then just spend a few minutes uninstalling some of the preinstalled apps and games and you're done.

do both what these guys said or try to go the extra mile by disabling services you probably wont need or even one up that by installing windows 10 lite edition (not sure if its light or gaming edition).. its an unofficial release that strips windows 10 to its bare necessities tho i dont recommend it but the option is there

Simply run the windows 10 debloat script and you will essentially have windows 7 again. You could even go as far as to change the taskbar and search to look like windows 7. But the script will disable and get rid of everything horrible in windows 10 in a matter of seconds. Improves performance by up to 8%

Just keeping this here as a It be called Windows 10 LTSB....  No bloatware, no Edge and any UWP apps, no Cortana, and should feeling like running Windows 7.

It sounds like Windows 10 LTSC is what you're after. It doesn't have any of the bloatware, doesn't get feature updates but gets security updates, can have the data-theft set to a minimal amount, and doesn't have UWP (including Cortana and Microsoft Store).

I've been trying to do some research while at work. Do you know any information regarding this having the ability to impact gaming performance? IE: Is it missing any necessary files,updates,etc. I would assume this version will run everything smoother with less consumption on components.

Many people use Windows 10 LTSC for their gaming rigs, and I've not heard of LTSC missing anything that would impact gaming. Software and functionality-wise, I think it's just UWP support and UWP programs that aren't included in LTSC. However, I think that some UWP programs can be added to LTSC if desired:

I also recommend LTSC, I run it in a VM regularly and it runs much smoother than the regular version

There is a lot more you have to do in Windows 10 to strip out all the crap than "going through every setting", although that's a fair start. I recommend going here for a fairly comprehensive list of settings: http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-10-service-configurations/ (there are ones for every version of windows going back to XP) if you want to do it the hard way.

 

LTSB is a much better start and you can skip the hard work of configuring it to look and act like Windows 7 by installing Classic Shell: http://www.classicshell.net/

The ultimate Windows could be only done by programs like Ntlite. But it takes time, knowledge and many tries to work properly. Becouse when You start throwing things away you can't stop doing that ?

 

But after that Windows 10 will be fully customized to Your needs, with zero bloatware and have a small footprint on HDD and memory. The best You can get is about 2,5 GB after install, 650 MB memory used and 40 services running in 64 bit version. There will be a lot of errors in event viewer, but it will work 0% CPU and HDD all the time. Super fast in simple tasks, but measured FPS in games or benchmark would be almost the same (0,1% difference or less) on modern equipment.

 

But You will be a king here, not M$, especially when upgrading such system by offline updater or just rebuilding it from time to time from scratch to a newer version. I am using it, and it works even on my old laptop with 1 GB RAM.
