Ultrabook for light CAD, Gaming?

Nerdom

Hello there,

I'm looking to buy a portable ultrabook for use alongside my current custom PC. I'd be using it to do some light CAD (Fusion 360), gaming, and some light Premiere/Audition as well, and am looking to spend less or equal to $1500 (also preferably not a Macbook, I'm a windows guy).

Would an LG Gram (link) work for this? I've never bought a laptop without a dedicated GPU before, and I'm not sure if they'd be sufficient for this. Also looking at the Matebook X (link).

Thunderbolt would be nice, but not required (I'm not going to be doing an eGPU).

Thanks, Nerdom.

ultrabook and gaming don't go together. try finding something that has iris plus graphics.

Not going for High even at 1080p here. Just ability to run at 60fps low for things like TF2 is all I need.

I think that the HP Spectre x360 might fit your needs best

  • ultrathin
  • some models have dedicated graphics
  • 2-in-1
  • touch capability

Looks like they hit the upper part of your budget though ?

I’m in the US, preferably 5lb or less. Taking it on transit every day. Possibly minimum-ish of 7hrs (web browsing, office, etc on battery)

I think you can even run TF2 low @60FPS with Intel iGPU

Mind low sRGB IPS? Mind non-upgradable RAM? Any preference on display size? Prefer performance/gaming laptop or regular laptop/Ultrabook?

I’d like IPS, decent color accuracy (not a photographer so don’t need 98%sRGB or other ridiculous accuracy). The more upgradable the better IMO. Gaming is fine, but still needs to be thinish, and not over 6lbs preferably. (E.g. the Razer Blade would be about as heavy and big as I would go).

IMO a gaming/performance laptop is more suitable for your usage

Lenovo Thinkpad P52 customize

Lenovo Thinkpad P1 - cooling isn't great, 1050 like performance

HP Omen 15-dc customize with 70Wh battery (1050TI, 144Hz IPS)

Dell G7 7590 - no reviews

Asus Zenbook UX533FD - 1050 only

Lenovo Yoga 720 15 (FHD)

Lenovo Yoga 730 15 (FHD)
