is the rtx 2060 worth it ?

i'm currently in the market for a gpu, in where i live a brand new rtx 2060 is around $425 and puts it right up there with a used gtx 1080/1070 ti. Is ray-tracing really that game changing or is it just a fade that will go away ? given that the 2060 is currently, the lowest-end touring gpu available and the 1080 is a high-end card

In my opinion it is not on any Turing card. Objectively, it is not game changing especially on a 2060.

 

I would get a 1080 if the seller is reliable.

Here is an interesting review on the 2060.  I would not get a 1070

Get it for the potential of DLSS, not for RT. Not only that, the 2060 can be overclocked, quite successfully, and sometimes beats the 1080 IIRC.

You're also getting a full warranty, vs a nearly gone warranty on another card.

Do you get a free game with the card where you are?

Can't forget DLSS, which over time might prove to be extremely beneficial, and the fact the 2060 is a pretty beastly card when overclocked.

One thing is for certain the RTX 2060 makes the RTX 2070 seem completely pointless, it is the same kind of pointless between a 1070 Ti and a 1080.

 

The performance difference is minimal, between a 2060, 1070 Ti, 1080 and 2070 I'd just grab the cheapest as the "best" will be single digits better in averages any ways.

The 2060 is a new gpu on a newer architecture with performance very similar to the 1070ti and 1080. I would opt for the 2060 because it has things that the 10 series does not while also giving the same performance for the price.

I upgraded to a rtx 2060 myself a few weeks ago and I don't regret it. I'd say do NOT get this card if you have RT in mind. But instead you do get something nice that the 1070ti/1080 don't get and it's already mentioned. DLSS is supposed to give a better performance boost compared to TAA. It's definitely a great card for the price and I don't regret it myself. I also have to say that I wouldn't even consider a used card if I can a new card for the same price and have better performance than a 1070ti and close to a 1080.

RT and DLSS are both brand new technologies on a GPU, it takes time for games to utilize those. Currently there aren't that many games out with RT so its a gamble with 2060 as there is knowing how well the coming games run with RT on with that card.

 

 

Also if rumors are true Nvidia is making that GTX 1160/1660, it might have fewer Cuda cores according to rumors. But if you don't need RT or DLSS now, I would wait and see what is Nvidia's line up for Turing GPUs.

Sure, but then we would need to consider that you can OC a 1070 Ti / 1080 too.

Obviously, they would come without warranty which is a big disadvantage.

The RTX 2060 definitely has a great value for the price. With more and more games adopting the real-time RayTracing abilities, plus the onboard DLSS and serious overclocking capabilities, you will make a right purchasing decision with this card. However, if you're not into RT and are able to find 1080 cards on extremely good deals, you could go with that too.
