Who has a Samsung 49" QLED Gaming Monitor?

Turtle Rig

I want to know who has this monster.  Reason being Ive been using 4k resolution now for about 5 years.  I hate to sacrifice my 4k 60hz just to get QHD or WQHD so it can do 144hz and be IPS.

Is it worth the downgrade in monitor size + resolution to gain 144hz and IPS and possibly HDR.  Were headed into 2020 and their selling 24" gaming monitors, I mean wtf I thought we are supposed to advance..  Were going backwards.

There should be 40" 4k IPS 144hz Curved monitors out by now, this is a joke.  The monitor industry is moving as slowly as Intel Fabrication stuck at 14nm ,,, sighs

40" 4K IPS 144Hz Curved monitors are very expensive to design and manufacture. They cost both the manufacturer and consumer so much money that there's just not enough demand for these monitors.

40" 4K IPS 144Hz Curved is also a very high expectation. Almost unrealistic by 2020 standards.

Maybe by around 2025 that sort of thing will be more available, but for now I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

Thank you 1kv for that explanation.  Very well said.  I understand now.  Still sucks but oh well it what it is I suppose.  2025 yikes,,,, Why can't monitors have motion rate or whatever each company calls it as it does 120 and feels like a 120hz with no anomalies.  If 4k 144hz Curved IPS is 6 years away then what do you suggest for someone like me 1kv ?  Who has been using 4k resolution for all this time ever since it came out but the 60hz blows big goat.  Also motion blur is terrible.  So I guess I must adopt UWQHD move down 5 inches and couple notches on the resolution just to get 144hz,, sighs

If you want 144Hz 4K Curved then you'll probably have to go for a 32 inch monitor. I'd say at least 2 years until you can get 40 inch 4K 144Hz (possibly even curved).

Also you're welcome, I'm glad I could help :)

Most PC users use 24" or 27" monitors, that is why they are mainly targeting those sizes.

I was not talking about those stupid super-ultra-wide displays.

I'm talking about high framerate 4k tvs (aka large monitors).

Dell, LG, nvidia, HP, etc etc etc are all releasing high refreshrate 4k large format screens this year.

Most people use their PC on a desk of some kind, so they're sitting on average 3-4ft away... At this distance, a larger monitor just doesn't make sense... and as the majority of people game/work this way... It makes sense for manufacturers to concentrate the focus on what the majority of people are buying.

So the larger screens don;t sell as much to offset the cost of developing and manufacturing them... It's supply and demand... the more they become in demand the more they make and the more the production costs come down... and the price follows.

Now when it comes to the console side of things, people generally sit 6ft or more away and game on a larger TV... and consoles can't take advantage of  the higher refresh rates...as even at 4K they're limited to 60fps... which as far as I am aware, is the max any console is currently doing.

Hah you say they're still making small monitors and I'm here, everyone are making oversized ones. Can't find a normal Freesync 2 monitor that's not enormous and cured. Majority don't want huge TV sized monitors though. I'm here looking for 1440p 244Hz IPS in 24" form factor and such simple monitor doesn't even exist.

Ones definition of huge can differ.

I would say i agree about not wanting a 'huge' screen as my monitor ..but my definition of huge is 50"+.

i consider tiny/small to be below 37".

I use a 42", and its fine, i sit with my eyes about 4' from the screen.

I ofc would like a 4k display, actually i would like a 5120x2160 display at about 40". Alass i will only use a self emmisive display tech, not trash backlit tech like LCD with all its failings attached. So im stuck with 1080p for now.

As much as some people are salivating over these 'BFG' displays, they will still suffer from the same LCD defects. BLB, IPS glow if IPS, slow pixel response, poor viewing angles, unable to produce black, poor colors if TN, etc.  They can make a big 'fast' display all they want , but so long as its LCD though its still not worth the price tag they will inevitably tack on.

Yeah. Well it's first of it's kind and like everything at first it's very expensive so in time we'll be seeing something like this for much cheaper than it is, but still pricey no doubt.

Its just a LG 55" OLED panel with 120hz.

if its more than £1200-£1500 then its overpriced sicne thats what u can get an LG OLED 55" TV for, granted its 60hz at 4k, but just how much of a premium is 120hz worth, for damn sure it isnt £1000+.

I can already see the number of 'burn in' complaints coming from 'gamers' who have only ever used LCD displays all their life, having no idea how to 'handle' a display that has the possibility of burn in. .like CRT ..like Plasma.

Still ,, will be amusing to see the price tag at launch.

Yeah, it's overpriced, not surprising given it's one of the first of it's kind. And those others you mention are TVs this one is a monitor nad 120Hz and low input lag is important, TVs have crap latency. Obviously those who have cash easily for something like it as being first buys can get it if they see it worthy.

Yes sh*T is very blurry for me when I look around the map, and I can tell the difference between 60 and 120hz on my desktop.  Web pages scroll smooth but don't blur the text and its readable as your scroll and what not.  Oh and 5k is being generous, I bet it costs more then that.
