High cpu usage and low gpu usage +(pictures)

DualMitten

Hello everybody. Hope you have a great day.

I'm facing this weird problem and I'm not sure if it's common or not?

Probably u got tired of hearing about it, but I searched on youtube and on some forums for a solution but couldn't find anything.

I have a really high CPU usage around 80% to 90% but my GPU barely hit 12%most of the time. The highest GPU usage was 25% and it was a one-time thing. I have no idea how to deal with or what to do.

(I play on 1440p with 165hz)

I added pictures now

Thank you for your time.

My spec:

I7-4770k clocked @4.4 GHz with (Asrock easy tuning in the bois)(tried to revert it but couldn't)

Cooler: Corsair h100i

Mobo: ASRock 87 extreme 4

32 GB of ddr3 ram 1600mhz (Kingston)

Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11GB Graphic Cards GV-N108TAORUS X-11GD

What framerate? Or is the framerate impacted at all?

What game are you playing?

I'd say it's a bottleneck, but it wouldn't cause the GPU to be at 25%...

Even then, I'd recommend upgrading to Zen 2 when it comes out in May or June. You will need a new motherboard and new RAM, but the CPU will be pretty cheap (about 199$ for what is a 9900K).

On gta v 1440p 165hz with the settings on normal fps around 85 or less

Overwatch on all low setting with render scale 75% fps set custom 300

Around 280 and dips alot below 120

Resolution? What application?

I think a 4770k shouldn't bottleneck a 1080ti that much, I don't even think you need to upgrade an I7-4770k to run good with a 1080ti. Intel hasn't done many improvements on their chips in the last few years. I've ran a 1080ti with a 6700k and my experience is that a 4770k is pretty comparable (a bit weaker) to a 6700k.

(I think you mean I7-4770k instead of I7-4470k?)

It's all the low setting. It hits the cpu more. Up the eye candy. Should balance the loads more

Yeah i spelled wrong gonna change it

I tried gta v on all setting max motion blur off 1440p with render scale max gpu usage around 12 to 18 with fps around 70 or less

AMD's new CPUs are actually pretty good (according to a report in mid 2018, the new AMD Ryzen CPUs are outselling Intel 2:1).

The new Zen 2 architecture will have 9900K performance (at 5GHz) at stock at a 199$ CPU, which is pretty low. They will only come in May-June however

Here are the AdoredTV leaks from December:image.png.e57549c8633386b4d6c1b3e8bf32573c.png (replace CES with May/June). The red highlighted part is about 2050-2100cb in Cinebench, so it's about a 9900K.

If it was bottlenecking that hard. he's cpu would be spiking @100 % and frames would be dropping like crazy.

I run an i5 6400 at 4.3ghz 16gb ram with gtx 1080 with zero issues.

I’ve cracked it.

most likely it’s a power bottleneck. What PSU do you have?

Is there another game or benchmark results from unigine or something of the sort?

I know my 4770k has issues in some games but my frame rate has never been that low. Don’t see any pics of the task manager though.

Ok it’s not power so I’m thinking just extreme ram bottleneck

ddr3 vs ddr4 isnt going to be that big of a deal.

maybe 3-5% improvement

Ran my ram at 1600 or 2400 with 32 gbs. 4770k will still be at 100% but the gpu will be at 100% too.

Still haven’t seen results from a unigine benchmark. Need more info.

That game needs a lot of video memory!
( managed to stay away from that particular game )

Still it is a pretty old game it could be that the game really only uses that much cores on your gpu... the 11 gb needs to be filled ofcourse and all open world games ask a lot of your cpu, coupled with a 8700 or 9700, 9600 your p.c. will be a beast again (y)

Strongly disagree.

just go YouTube and search ‘does ram matter benchmarks’ or something.

i mean between 2400 and 3000 there’s like a 20fps difference,

so im guessing he’s loosing about 50-60fps due to that ram.

I can turn my ddr3 ram down to 1600. It isn’t gonna drop frames that bad. I’d be willing to bet it’d be marginal. Seeing how that’s where my boards default the ram too and even does so during the auto oc, if it effected FPS in anyway I would see it.

We arent talking YouTube scenarios of 3-5 FPS either.

Op hasn’t even gave us any real details to deduce something, let alone ram speed.

This appears to be a bottleneck...The biggest bottleneck I have ever seen in fact. Looking at the picture you have of gta it appears that you have all of your settings turned to the lowest. With 90 fps I would think that it is a cpu bottleneck as gta is very cpu intensive for certain builds, a 1080ti would get far more fps on a non-bottlenecked build. That is the framerate I would expect your cpu to be limited at, however, even at the lowest settings that gpu usage seems way too low.

To test if it really is a cpu bottleneck try lowering the cpu clock speed(making sure you know what you are doing). If the framerate lowers when the clock speed is lowered then it is a cpu bottleneck, if not it is something else that is bottlenecking your system or the drivers are somehow conflicting with the game(it was made in 2014)
