Photo/Video Editing PC under $1000?

My razer blade stealth (the old 4k version) does the job when editing in lightroom and photoshop, but when I do anything that's a little hard on the laptop it runs slow and I have to wait for smoothing to finish or exporting or rendering. Also, when trying to edit basic 720 or 1080 footage it's not slow, but not smooth either. I won't have any heavy workflow so anything that runs smooth for the price point is enough for me. The $1,000 would be before monitor.

He should try to keep his ram in dual-channel for better performance. 16 or 32 is best.

Then he could slap in a 4th stick, for another’s 50 bucks it shouldn’t break the budget too badly...30 bucks over I think

Get a refurb'd Dell Precision? Xeon Cores and Threads as far as the eye can see. I use one for my photography (I'm a professional photographer) and been super pleased with it. Cost about half what you wanted to spend...if money is an issue.

Precision T5610, got it configured/refurb'd from newegg (there's a company that does that) with 20 cores and 40 threads in 2 Xeons.

E5-2670v2 CPUs, lots of ecc reg ddr3 ram, a SATA SSD drive (256GB I think)

To this I added my existing GTX 660, 2 TB spinner data drive, and a PCIe nvme m.2 adapter for ultra fast swap storage.

Couldn't be happier. Paid about 600$ for the whole shebang.

Should I not worry about a GPU and then add it myself and remove any exisiting GPU to pay less than I need to?

That's what I did. The system came with a Quadro K2000, which is fine for workstation needs and I assume some light gaming (didn't try) but I already had a GTX 660, so I saved myself some cash there and added my old card in.

 

Just an option for you if you are on a tight budget
