Hello is it better to to leave a desktop on for a few hours or turn it off and boot it back up In the same amount of time.

Are you asking if a PC should be turned off after a few hours even if you're using it? I turn mine off when I'm not using it. Otherwise you can leave it always on and let it go to sleep and you should still get a long life from the PC.

I would believe it's more healthy for your PC to leave it on. Also depends on power consumption whether or not it makes sense.

it really doesnt matter in terms of lifespam and wear.

 

however leaving a PC on means ur leaving the fans on suckign in air and also dust. So the more time your PC is spent on, the sooner your goign to have to clean it.

Nowadays it makes little difference, it's really up to you... what I would do instead however is put it to 'sleep' so it resumes faster and keeps all as it was when you left since it'll store your session on memory.

Overall I'd argue it's better to turn it off or put it to sleep. Less wear on the fans or any other moving parts, less dust getting in, and you're saving money (however small) by not using electricity.

I leave my pc on for decades at a time!

It makes no difference these days. 

 

The act of powering ON/OFF a computer causing any sort of "damage" is outdated knowledge and is essentially a myth these days.

Just do whatever you want to do. I shut it down every night. Have been doing so for the past 9 years and it's still going strong with 2 HDDs and 1 SSD from way back then still alive and kicking in my computer.
