Is it safe to let my CPU run at 100% for 3-5 hrs?

If your PC has proper cooling then yes it will sustain 100% load. Also if your PC is relatively new then it will automatically shutdown in case of overheat.

I ripped a few Blu-rays and they struggle to play via Plex due to the high bitrate. 

I want to compress/transcode them via HandBrake but it says it will take about 3-5 hours depending on the video size. 

 

My CPU isn't exactly powerful (i3 8100) so I think letting it run overnight may be my only choice.  

Is it safe to let my PC run overnight (with automatic shutdown upon completion) for transcoding video files?

 

I will have about 20+ Blu-ray video files I will need to transcode (probably one video file per night). 

Will this ruin my CPU? Any tips for transcoding? Any issues with doing this? I have adequate cooling (side panel window is taken out) so I don't think overheating will be an issue.

Yes, as long as you aren't hitting temps north of 85 Degrees C then it is perfectly okay.

It will be fine, CPUs really dont break just because they get pushed to their limit.

I'm pretty sure cpu degredation won't happen anywhere near as fast as you think, especially at intels predefined boundaries.

85 is what I would say is the absolute limit haha, if it was my system I would never let it get to 75 degrees C. But below 85 degrees is still safe.

Yes but it can thermal throttle for hours before that happens, once you're above 85 degrees C is when you typically see thermal throttling, and prolonged use at those temps can affect the longevity of a CPU.
