Frametime plots, 6 cores, and 1440p.

Ok so I'm torn between the 8600k and the 8700k.

GN tests the frametime plot of these chips.  And it shows the 6c/6t chip has delays in some games, while the 6c/12t 8700k doesn't have delays.  

 

I noticed the frame time plot test says 1080p.  
I couldn't find the monitor or refresh rate info they tested with.  

 

My question is, at 1440p, on a 144hz monitor with the 8600k, will I still experience the same frame time delay as this 1080p test?  

 

Do frametime delays become less pronounced as you increase resolution?

Would you benefit at all from the extra cores on the 8700K? If not, then you could probably just go with the 8600K and be fine.

it seems to happen regardless of resolution, but it wouldnt appear to be this serious because at 1440p you will be getting worse frame rates in the first place

If you're planning on running 100+ FPS than yes it will be noticeable, the frame times in that graph are 8ms~ on average which means he was averaging 125~fps. 6c/6t isn't really enough IMO (roughly equivalent to 4c/8t), it's barely enough today, definitely not enough over the next 1-2 years.

 

EDIT: Just saw the FPS charts, there's a 1440p chart right there that shows the 8600K with an average of 130FPS and a low 37FPS.

And if you don't plan to delid a 8700k, then the 9700k is better.

 

I'd aim for 6/12, 8/8 at a minimum on new builds, what with zen 2 flooding in with more cores.

So from Intel 8700/8700K/9700K/9900K and from AMD 2600/2600X/2700/2700X.

 

AMD are also announcing their next line-up next Wednesday so it might be worthwhile waiting to see what they have in store.

microcenter has a killer deal on 8700k's. I got it with a MSI Z390-Pro A or somethin for 450 bucks. Was going to get a 9700k, but for 50 bucks more I got a decent mobo and 8700k.......... If you are anywhere near one as the deal is in store pickup only, I would look at it. I pick mine up tomorrow!
