8700k vs 9900k for editing and streaming

KEEP IN MIND THAT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THE 8700K OR 9900K FOR THE PRICE OF A 2700X, SO I AM LOOKING FOR PERFORMANCE AND TEMPS

Then what the heck are you waiting for?! That's a bargain for a 9900K. Get the 9900K and you will be good to go for years.

Performance wise, the 9900K is ahead of both the 8700K (in productivity) and 2700X (gaming and productivity) though you won't see the improvements in gaming unless you upgrade your GTX 1060 to at least at an RTX 2080 class card.

Don't worry about the temps, the Dark Rock Pro 4 is one of the better HSFs available and will be fine especially with a stock 9900K.

the best mainstream CPU in the market today won't really be of benefit in gaming alone without a powerful GPU to back it up... and all this high end hardware must be powered by a great PSU.

I have a 650W PSU (I think) and PCPartpicker says it will use about 270W.

I use a 1060 6GB from EVGA (Gaming edition), but I will upgrade to a 1080 Ti ATLEAST later on when I have more money.

It's only going to be slightly faster than the 8700K for gaming despite the price just as an FYI.

This may be true, but keep into consideration that I will also be video editing and streaming

the 9900k draws about 180w (oc),stock is 135w IF u tone down the unnecessary voltages,  add 100 for the motherboard and other stuff, then add the video card, 1080 ti is 250-300w, so u'll draw about 600w on full load

It's also only slightly faster in those cases as well, especially in Vegas if you're using Pro 15 since that mostly uses your GPU

And for streaming you have quick sync or nvenc

I mean if you want more cores the 1920X is "Cheap" but obviously is only Ryzen 7 in gaming

More cores is more fun however.

The part picker PSU calculator is near useless

just get any decent gold rated 750W or better unit, but your current PSU is fine unless you're going to move it with your older components.

maybe a TMX from corsair, or Focus Gold unit from seasonic depending on the price

Then why are you buying a K CPU at all? That would mean it's even closer to Ryzen where you might as well save the cash lol.

It's fine with the 9900K and 1080ti

Are you just selling your old stuff and not making a secondary PC?

if you don't oc it i believe it is only 15% faster than a 2700x, at 4.7 the temps are under 60C full load.... i do use a lower voltage for "stock" though, the auto mobo settings are ridiculous.

Yup the i9 9900K at stock is still about as fast as it gets, although enabling MCE will be perfectly doable for your hardware configuration.

a Ryzen 5 2600 is enough to max out a GTX 1060, the point we're trying to get across here is that there is no reason not to OC, it's easy and no it will not degrade your CPU any faster... at least in a meaningful way.

Lord no

If you want the best value CPU(s) buy a Ryzen 5 2600 or 2700

If you want the better value intel CPU, buy the 8700K

the 9700K is a joke, it should have 6 cores 12 threads, but they wanted people to still buy the 8700K

the 9900K is way too highly priced and doesn't have much to justify it.

basically if you don't oc or getting the 9700k you'll be beat by zen 2 in 6 months, buying the 9900k now is the best "futureproofing" you can do while ensuring optimal performance, gaming and streaming at the same time is taxing.

Thing is that I will be spending more money than I have (I have some in my savings for boarding school, too long wont tell), so I do not want to do something I am not completely fond of yet. My dad (who has been working with technology and stuff) is kinda adminstrating my PC purchase and does not want me to buy a 2700x. I have that CPU too for a few days and I can only say that I have no idea about any "higher temps"

I play games like PUBG on it with unlocked FPS and don't see any high temps at all

I mean you really don't need to consider temps

Just think about

is ~35-40% more fps in some games and like 20% in most games worth to pay ~150% of the AMD Ryzen price?
For me it was 9001% worth it.

For the other tasks the ryzen road would probably good enough but for gaming (considering you don't buy it for only 12 month of use but maybe for 24 or 36 months (or even more)) the i9-9900k should be the way to go.

well and get a 2070 or 2080 ^^!

Get the i7 8700K and OC it to 5ghz with the motherboard and cooler you're already set on, I don't think the i9 9900K will be justified for you, you can still stream fine as every one said with QuickSync using the 8700K and video editing is more than fine on it also.

I might possibly wait for Zen 2 then. It will probably be worth it.

However my cpu sounds look someone coughing up blood while I'm playing. My pc is really loud at easily gets to 80%-100% CPU usage while playing / streaming (first gen i7), so I need a good one soon, which is probably why I have been researching the best cpu for months now.

my theory is that the 9900k will be serviceable compared to any 7nm that comes out, so you should be good for 4-5 years. I personally do plan to upgrade to 7nm when needed.

For you, getting the 2700x now doesn't make sense because the zen 2 will blow it out of the water in 6 months, 9900k will hopefully match the new stuff.

So u can either buy a 2600, wait for zen 2, or get a 9900k
