Which RAID controller?

I'm thinking of going with a RAID 1 or RAID 10 setup... though my search to determine which controller I should buy has been confusing. I see huge price ranges and plenty of brands I don't recognize and simply don't know where to start. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I am partial to LSI because of the few brands I've used LSI has been the most reliable.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Why do you need raid?

Often the best option is to NOT use raid.
