cx450m enough?

will a 450watt psu, the cx450m psu from corsair, be enough for a rtx 2080 with a currently r5 2600x, but upgrading to ryzen 7 3700x once it launches. 

if not, will a 550 be enough?

For now, it is enough, but you are getting close-ish to the power limit. As for when Ryzen 7 3000 launches we don't know the power draw limit yet so that's not something we can really answer, the 7nm process, in theory, will be more power efficient but if there are 8-16 core CPU's they may draw more power due to more logical cores. 550W should be more than enough though.

Most systems never draw over 400W under load, I agree that you don't want to be close to your PSU's draw limit but 650W is kinda excessive.

but lets be reasonable, they're not gonna draw 250w, i think they will draw about 135 max if increased cores and clocks etc

Yes, agreed which is why 550W is definitely enough, but if you want that Corsair SF600 then that is a good choice.

Yeah, that's a decent unit, I would get one of the following though as they will be better quality with a better warranty. Evga G2 or G3, SeaSonic Focus or Prime series, Corsair RMx. But the CXM is still a solid buy.

Because the efficiency of your PSU is not best at full load. Also if a PSU is under full load it is more susceptible to voltage ripple, this can be avoided with a better quality PSU's but might as well spend $10-20 more and get a higher wattage PSU. And not to mention running any component at its full capacity wears it out. 

 

Like I said 450W is enough but 550W is playing it safe.

so many people with so many opinions, i dont want to  go way over the limit but dont wanna be close to it, 550 will be good for me, il just pick from a trusted and wel know brand like evga corsair etc. decent rating, atleast bronze. tell me if you disagree

well yes, but we're still talking about 30mV at worst on modern high-quality PSUs which is pretty low and not going to harm any hardware.

very often you encounter than a 450W psu is the same platform as the 550W version with few changes.

 

@Stephan Payne ever mentioned that nowadays there aren't even changes in the secondary side, mostly in the primary.

but picking from a trusted and well-known brand isn't a good idea.

 

Because not all corsair units are the same, they have higher-end and lower-end units that's why you should care about the model not just the brand or 80+ rating

nope, only psu i own now is cx450m

im not going for another 450. going for a 550, is a cx550m a good unit? high quality? i dont need it to be excellent quality, just need a good decent psu that wont blow up, fry or destroy my rig and can deliver the needed power, its 70€ from where im purchasing, which is already over my budget since im a student and dont earn any money,

it's the same psu just 100W more wattage, if you plan to get rid off your current PSU, make sure it is an actual upgrade

i own one cx450m, but i can return it for my money cause it hasnt been 30 days yet, but i like the tx550m. might go for that.

why is the tx550mv2 better than the cx550m tho? other than the rating going from bronze to gold?
