RAM won't run at 3200 MHz

Go to solution Solved by IAmAndre,

Alright problem solved by clearing the CMOS. Just resetting the BIOS solved the issue. With that said, the difference in performance is huge: my Desktop score on UserBenchmark went from 70% to 90%. Ryzen does like fast RAM.

Hi,

I bought a pair of Corsair Vengeance RAM sticks clocked at 3200 MHz but they are running at only 2100 MHz on my Gigabyte motherboard. XMP wasn't activated first but I did activate it yesterday and thought that would do the trick but on Windows I can see that it's still at 2100 MHz. I'm really confused with the whole interface and all the numbers so I'm sharing a screenshot with you. I've never overclocked anything in the past but I thought buying something at a higher frequency would make me avoid to have to do it.

someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that right column is just the default settings. best bet is to go into windows and launch cpu-z and see if the memory frequency shows 3200mhz or 2133mhz

Complete specs list?  XMP tells me you have Intel but nothing else (D.O.C.P. for AMD).  Does your motherboard support faster memory?

Depending on the manufacturer, the name might change. Apparently Gigabyte uses XMP for AMD motherboards too. I already put links to the motherboard official page and the ram listing

I wouldn't use manual. Your board should support XMP to 3200, your RAM should support XMP to 3200. Could try flash BIOS if not latest version. Then clear CMOS (even if you flash).

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Also if you have already update BIOS did you

Quote

Note: Update AMD Chipset Driver 18.10.20.02 or latest version before update this BIOS.

Get a screen shot of CPUZ running with the memory tab open.

How do I check the AMD chipset driver? I attached a screenshot of my device manager and there are quite a few AMD devices and I'm not sure which to check.
