Sennheiser ath m50 dawg.
But really, at their current price the M50's are a rip off/bad value.
Which means DT770, though you should also consider the HD380 Pro.
The M50's are also ungodly uncomfortable, and in a year the pads turn to stones, there are better options.

Derp.  I know; probably typed that because I'm wearing my 280 Pros right now.  :)

I didn't know Senheisser made ATH m50s...

But can you handle the 250 ohms?

I plan on getting an ODAC Combo some time in the near future.

Why not save cash and just get the O2?

The USB connection would be nice to have, so I could use the line out for my speakers.

The M50's are 4.4 performance per dollar; the DT770's are 7.5 performance per dollar. I measured the performance myself with my performance-meter. I can provide the raw data if requested.

Seriously though, audio isn't like graphics cards or CPU's. Performance/dollar ratio is meaningless here. It all comes down to what your budget is and what you are looking for in terms of portability and sound signature.

The M50's are OK if you can get them at around $100. They are fairly neutral, but a little bass heavy.

The DT770 are superior in sound quality and comfort. They have a "V" shaped sound signature. They'd definitely be my choice here.

I love my ath m50 and I love my dt770

the dt770 has a big bass that has such detail and a life combined with a decent soundstage for a closed back headphone

the M50 has a satisfying punchy quick bass with a detailed mid that gives string instruments and pianos a pleasing tone to my ears.

overall I feel the 770 misses too much out of the mid section it feels kind of hollow and empty there but makes up for it with soundstage.  performance per dollar I think the M50 is 5 blueberry pancakes out of 3 red turtle shells from super mario and the dt770 is the square root of the color blue.

I have access to dolby headphone but I always ALWAYS turn that shit software off

true it does give that feeling of a wider sound to me its like digital zoom on a shitty camera from years ago sure it zooms in on an object but the pixelation and crud it gives to the picture is not worth it. dolby headphone tosses in reverb and echos making it sound nice and wide but also making things sound vague.

hollow empty and fake

as stated before it does make stringed instruments feel lively and ..... vibratey? handles bass without sacrifice and it does keep its spot in my headphone lineup

dolby headphone effect sucks in stereo audio but in a 5.1 font (like a game/film) is a nice add on imho
