Ok my grandfather needs help with his Dell Inc. Model ORW199 DDR2 memory

He's having trouble buying the right memory I mean he's buying ddr2 ECC memory and that's what it's for that's what the model will take because it's a server board every time he goes buys it he's buying ECC ddr2 memory but every time he buys it the notch is not in the right place and is ddr2 because it says PC2 on it

It's probably time for a new PC

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I'm not familiar with DDR2 so I can't promise I could help in the first place, but pictures would help immensely (Specifically the old memory next to the new memory, the computer open with the old memory installed, and error message(s)).

I don't understand why he's adding memory to such an old machine. Is he fixing memory that has gone bad? Is he upgrading it? What's he trying to do?

If he's trying to fix the computer, how many sticks are currently in the system? If there's more than one has he tried booting the computer with the old memory in combinations of different sticks in separate slots to identify if it's a bad motherboard or bad stick of RAM (assuming there is a problem)?

Maybe there was bad communication between you two and he really just filled up his hard drive. In that case increasing RAM capacity won't help. RAM is not the same as storage. He'd need a new hard drive or ssd for more storage.

If he's trying to make the computer faster I'd advise he buy a new one. I doubt increasing RAM capacity is going to help too much with a machine that ancient. Maybe I'm wrong. How much RAM is currently in his computer. What version of Windows is he running? Make sure he uses a browser that is less RAM heavy than Google Chrome.

you're barking up the wrong tree.

its time for something that's not ancient.

EDIT: if it's about keeping a relic alive, you need FBDIMM memory.
