im going with 1070ti at the moment the rx56 is £350 and the 1070ti is £380 just want some help with other  peoples opinion

Also take into consideration the monitor that he will be using. If he has or will be getting a free sync monitor the Vega 56 would technically be slower but would give a smother gaming experience.

lol when you say RX 56 I'm like 'why the hell is an RX 560, a budget card, going up against a 1070ti".

 

but also, what exact models are these? Vega reference cards have bad cooling so not those, but 1070ti could come in blowers too.

I'd definitely go for the 1070 Ti. £380 is an absolute bargain for a 1070 Ti, especially considering it's only a 1 year old card. 

Plus the performance is pretty good.

I'd say it depends on the monitor situation, and if having Free Sync or G Sync is important to your friend.  For me, one of those two options is essential.  If you need to budget for a monitor, then going Vega 56.  Even paying more for one of the nicer Vega cards would still get you a better overall package because a free sync monitor will always been quite a bit cheaper than than a gsync monitor.  

 

For example, currently the least expensive 24" G-Sync monitor on newegg is $450 USD.  The least expensive Free Sync monitor is $140 USD.  Both 1080p, both have 1ms input times.  The G-Sync monitor does have a higher refresh rate, but if you get the cheapest Free Sync monitor with the same 144hz refresh rate it's still only $230.00.  That's a minimum of $220 difference, up to $310 difference.  

 

Take that extra $265 extra and put it into the GPU and you'll have a fantastic Vega 56 with great cooling.  A lot of people say that Vega runs hot, but I can't remember my Vega 56 ever going above 70C while gaming.  Just don't get a founders edition, because they do have bad cooling.  haha. 

 

If your friend already has a monitor without free sync or g sync, then go 1070.  

If your friend has a monitor with g sync, then go 1070

If your friend has a monitor with free sync, go Vega 56.

If your friend needs to buy both, go a Vega 56
