i9 9900k oc

over 1.45 volts is generally considered too high for everyday use, but what's your performance target? 1.45 for an all core of 5GHz doesn't make sense.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

start at 1.3v 4.7 all core, don't go over 1.4, keep it under 90C, 85 for everyday use.

Ok here is my whole build

I7 8700 ( about to change to i9 9900K)

MSI Z370 gaming pro carbon

NZXT X52 (about to change to fans to Corsair LL 120)

Antec P8 case (about to change to corsair obsidian 500d rgb se, hence the new LL120 on the AIO)

2X corsair vengeance pro rgb 3200mhz (wanted to get 4 but the god damn nzxt holes are blocking it)( So i'm actually thinking if i should change my aio but i dont know what to change to)

Case fan 3X corsair ll 120 

Corsair RM750x

Zotac 1080 ti mini

above is my pc setup, honestly i am not so sure what is a reasonable oc clock speed, i just want to boost it somewhat a little more than a bit, but definitely not crazy overclocking haha. Thanks

Mine passed a bunch of Timespy runs with 5.3 gHz @ 1.375v but the next day it kept freezing, so I've had to drop it to 5.2 gHz @ 1.33v for now. Need to figure out what changed since I didn't change anything myself...

yes both sides is possible, just make sure the airflow goes the same way for all fans so they don't work against each other.

you might need some extra screws or you can use just 2 screws per fan, up to you.

 

about the overclock, if your cooler can keep temps in check, 1.35V is what most people are willing to run, up to 1.4V is still save if temps are in check.

telling you what MHz to run at what voltage is somewhat hard to do since it depends on silicone lottery, in general 4.7Ghz all cores should be doable with 1.3V on most of these cpu's, again this might depend on your chip. some 9900k's do 5ghz with 1.3V

Why are you replacing an i7 8700k with an i9 9900k?

Ok, then try 4.5GHz 1.25V first. Watch your cooling and not let the CPU get above 80C in stress tests like Prime95, the X52 is not going to deal with the heat if you push like 1.35V through the CPU. You will want to adjust your LLC settings at this setting (basically make the voltage at idle and full load the same, if not drop a little. Never let it overshoot under load past idle voltages).

 

@Princess Cadence OP's using the locked 8700, like you did.

And since OP has a z370 and an i7 8700 he can also get it up to 4.445ghz all cores and have a CPU capable of gaming with a 2080 Ti all day long, so I insist OP might want to share with us what he plans on doing with the i9 as it might be completely unnecessary.

 

Spending so much money on the 9900K to end up with marginally the same performance you could have had all along would be quite a bummer if you're expecting some miracle off it.
