Which drawing program can you recommend?

Hey guys,

I just got my first drawing tablet and I wonder which program I should use it with.

Can you recommend me any other than Adobe?

Thanks in advance!

Paint Tool Sai has been pretty good to me.It's a lot like photoshop but with a more newcomer friendly interface.

Two main popular ones are Paint Tool Sai and Clip Paint Studio (Which goes on sale 50% off from time to time).

There's also Krita which is free.

I use clip studio. Has everything I want in a drawing program. If you're just starting out get the fan made version of paint tool sai, it's free and a very good program to get you started,. There are some pros who use sai as their main program, so don't think that it's too basic because it's free

Krita for sure. Love that program.

The recommendations above are also really solid, SAI and Clip studio especially for drawing. Gimp (as much as I love it and used to use it for drawing) is more a photo/image manipulation programs and Inkscape is a great vector editor, but it's not a drawing program.

Krita has a medium difficulty curve, SAI is quite intuitive and thus easier to get into and I don't have enough experience with Clip Studio to judge the program.

Krita and SAI are both great for any type of drawing, but Krita is mainly great for digital painting, while SAI excels more at 'cartoon'/'anime' drawing. Another cool feature Krita has is the animation tool. Krita's brush engine is also very deep, as in you have a ton of options, which is good, but also sometimes feels like a bit too much.

Krita is also very much free, while SAI is paid.

Does GIMP count as a "drawing program"?

Basically I learned on GIMP growing up, and now even knowing Adobe is technically more feature-rich and the global standard and all, I just can't bring myself to relearn everything when I already know how to use GIMP.

But there are things you can do in Adobe that you can't in GIMP. I've just never needed them since all I do is make graphics for site design and such I guess.

Aside from that, most of the "artistic" friends I have are fans of Wacom products. I'm not sure if they have their own software as well, but you can browse their site and such.

Edit: Here's their "apps & services", though they're probably intended for use with their own products.

I'm not sure if you're into animation as well maybe, but I know the program that Studio Ghilbi used for animation,Toonz, is now free and open-source (and now called OpenToonz) as well: https://opentoonz.github.io/e/

Wacom products often come with some bundled programs, but are usually intended to use with your program of choice (e.g. if you like Photoshop already, a Wacom tablet can be used in that program to more ergonomically draw in the program).

Ask said above, I like Gimp but don't really count it as a drawing program because it is just missing some fluidity in actually drawing. It's just a bit stiff for drawing.

It's great for graphic design though.
