They use it for verification now, if you don't want to give them your phone number there are plenty of privacy friendly options out there.

there should be a small "skip" at the bottom half of your screen. If not, you will HAVE to enter a phone number to continue (or contact gmail support).

I have actually found that to be quite useful. shoot, they're already getting all of your information and more than likely already have your number through a different source. Don't be so weary. Google will rule us all one day, just accept it.

You can skip it, you probably your VPN.

I did most of these account before they implement the sms verification thing so but I did make a some ones after and I never had to provide my number.

It not hard or cost much to get a sim ... I mean you need phone which you can grab free from second hand recycling place.

You don't have to give Google your phone number for gmail to work, although @DVA pointed out, they probably have it anyways, they're just not telling you.

They will continue to nag you, but skipping it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'd recommend switching away from gmail actually, there are plenty great options out there and if it will draw out Googles inevitable rulership over all of us, I'm gladly gonna give my money to someone else

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably

You can either:

A) Enter a phone number.

OR

B) Use one of the many e-mail providers out there that don't ask for your phone number.

You can remove nagging by adding another email for account recovery. I have 3 accounts and phone number added to only main.
