Absurd definition of liquid cooling on HACKADAY

"Liquid cooling is a popular way to get a bit of extra performance out of your computer. Usually this is done in desktops, where a special heat sink with copper tubing is glued to the CPU, and the copper tubes are plumbed to a radiator."

Glue and copper tubing are both optional and usually not involved at all. Also, the tubing is seldom if ever in contact with the CPU. Boy is this painful to read.

That is what happens when a pseudo "tech" website writes articles about something actual connected with tech. Not a phone review or a boring smartwatch review.

This guy mentions "Gluing" the heatsink to the CPU. Which is true if you get a heatsink kit for the the Raspberry Pi. But I don't know of any desktops with glued on heatsinks, which he seems to think there are.

That description sort of fits most aircooling setups, funnily enough. Copper heatpipes which use liquid for evaporative heat transfer.

 

And of course heatpipes are extremely common in laptops as well.

I actually thought about dong this just for the heck of it, since my RPi 2 was overclocked and overvolted.

I already had a heatsink + cooling fan over the two major chips...similar to this with the addition of a 20 (?) mm fan over the Broadcom CPU
